Irish alt-folk troubador Damien Rice wins the Shortlist Music Prize:
- Capping off an evening of powerful musical performances, Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice took home the third annual Shortlist Music Prize for Artistic Achievement at a sold-out concert at the Wiltern last night in Los Angeles. The Shortlist Concert, presented by MTV 2, featured live performances from eight of the ten Shortlist Finalists: The Streets, Cat Power, The Black Keys, Cody ChesnuTT, Floetry, Interpol, and a hauntingly beautiful set by Rice and his four piece band. The winner was selected moments before the start of the concert by a panel of Listmakers, including recording artist Musiq, producer/remixer Dan The Automator and KCRW’s Nic Harcourt, who each made appearances on the stage.
….For winning the gold statuette nicknamed “the Shorty,” Damien Rice received a $5,000 cash prize provided by Sirius Satellite Radio.
….The concert was videotaped by MTV2 for broadcast as a one-hour television special which will debut on October 25th at 1pm and 6pm Eastern. The special will feature live performances from the concert, interviews with Listmakers and finalists, and an exclusive “behind-the-scenes” look at the Listmakers’ deliberations that determined the winner.
Sounds like a good show with a lot of interesting talent.
