Book Review: ‘Savage Legion” by Matt Wallace

Cover Savage Legion

Matt Wallace, author of Savage Legion, first entered my radar with his seven wonderful ‘Sin du Jour” novellas which answered the question nobody’d thought to ask before of “where would demons or other denizens of the supernatural community go should they wish to throw a well-catered event?” From the opening …

Music Review: The Damned – ‘Damned, Damned, Damned: 40th Anniversary Edition’

If you are a fan of punk rock, then you more than likely have a copy of this album somewhere, so this might not be an essential purchase, you’d think. I think that the clarity on this album and the immediacy of the music despite the four decades since its recording makes it essential.

Music Review: Mehmet Ali Sanlikol & Whatsnext? – ‘Resolution’

With a definite split in personality over the nine tracks that compose the album – something to be expected perhaps when we’re talking about an album that dances from big band jazz to Turkish folk melodies to something that’s almost reggae – 'Resolution' is definitely one of the more interesting listens I’ve happened upon in months.

Music Review: Brown Sabbath – ‘Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath, Vol. II’

Brownout finds the little nooks and crannies of the soulful and funky undercurrents in the heaviness of Black Sabbath songs and fleshes them out with some greasy horns, nearly hypnotic percussion, and much more psychedelic improv than you might think. If you love Black Sabbath, you will dig this unique covers album tremendously.

Music Review: Led Zeppelin – ‘The Complete BBC Sessions’

Here is a band in full control of their talent and musicianship that had four studio albums that time would ultimately call one of the most amazing beginnings of any band ever, comparable only to the thunderous Black Sabbath’s first four albums.
