Without succumbing to total self-parody as did Leslie Nielsen (who has had an exceptional second career as a buffoon, but I can’t imagine him playing a serious role again), William Shatner has somehow had it both ways, lingering the public imagination as the heroic, gravitas-laden Captain Kirk, winning his first Emmy this year for his guest role in The Practice, starring in the spin-off series Boston Legal, AND poking fun at himself for the pretensions inherent in his Master Thespian acting persona.
Similarly, he new album Has Been is self-parody but also highly amusing on a straight musical level, with Bill speak-singing over tracks featuring Joe Jackson, Aimee Mann, lwemon Jelly, Henry Rollins, Brad Paisley, and supervised by Ben Folds.
Bathe yourself with four songs from the album here, while you commit appalling sins with his digital likeness. Even more Shatner madness here and here.
