how to draw manga

With the burgeoning popularity of manga among a young comics-reading audience, a growing niche market for teaching would-be artists how to draw manga has similarly grown. Books for young readers (like Katy Cooper's How to Draw Manga) as well as older aspiring manga artists (e.g., John Layman and David Hutchison's Complete Idiot's Guide to Drawing Manga and Haruno Nagatomo's Draw Your Own Manga: All the Basics) have sprouted on the market.

There even is an online website entitled Manga University offering coursework in this unique comics style. The proliferation of "how-to" guides has been such that the trend has even inspired its own satire, Koji Aihara and Kentaro Takekuma's adult manga Even A Monkey Can Draw Manga, a book that's over twenty years old but still applicable to much of what passes for current manga storytelling.
