Zero 7, North Londoners Sam Hardaker and Henry Binns and a brace of guest vocalists (Mozez, Sia Furler, Sophie Barker, Tina Dico) and musicians, sounds exactly like the picture above looks: neo-psychedelic pastel hues surging with subversive stealth up the nervous system into the heart of the head. Though firmly in the sophisto-lounge-pop camp, Dico’s vocal on “Home” is surprisingly bluesy as passion battles ennui for her attention.
The title track is a Rhodes-and-Hammond dominated instrumental midnight stroll along the “Riders On the Storm” beach, while “Look Up” is a sprightly uptempo shuffle of strings, acoustic guitar, and Adam Glasser’s Stevie Wonderish harmonica. Don’t fight the surge.
