Chinatown is a 1974 film directed by Roman Polanksi, written by Robert Towne, and starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. The movie won and was nominated for numerous awards so chinatown movie is a popular tag.
Nicholson stars as private detective Jake Gittes, hired to spy on the husband of Dunaway's character, Evelyn Mulwray. Although Gittes believes it is an adultery investigation, the movie leads him into a complex corruption scheme involving Mulrway's father, played by famed film director John Huston.
Chinatown is second on the American Film Institute's list of top 10 mystery films and No. 19 on the organization's list of the 100 greatest American films.
