59th Annual Tony Awards

The American Theatre Wing’s 59th Annual Tony Awards show, from NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, will be aired on CBS from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT), Sunday, June 5, 2005. Stage and screen star Hugh Jackman, a Tony winner himself for The Boy From Oz, will host for the third year in a row. This will be the 28th consecutive year that CBS has aired the Broadway gala.

The nominees were announced today, with Monty Python’s Spamalot, a zany medieval musical loosely based on the Monty Python and the Holy Grail film, led all Broadway productions with 14 Tony nominations, including best musical and actor noms for Tim Curry and Hank Azaria. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and “The Light in The Piazza” received 11 nods each. Playwright Edward Albee, who earned Pulitzer Prizes for A Delicate Balance, Seascape, and Three Tall Women, will receive Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
