The Adobe Report: June 2018

There are a number of new items to report in this edition of The Adobe Report, so let’s get started!

Adobe MAX 2018

Official registration for Adobe MAX 2018 is now open. Adobe MAX, the largest convention aimed at creatives, will feature the latest innovations along with breaking news and keynotes from some of the biggest names in creative design. It takes place October 15-17 in Los Angeles.

This year the conference will include John Madea, designer, technologist, and Global Head of Computational Design + Includes at Automattic; Jessica Hische, lettering artist and author of Tomorrow I’ll be Brave; Adam J. Kurtz, Brooklyn-based artist and author of Things Are What You Make of Them”; Aaron Draplin, graphic designer and founder of Draplin Design Company; Annie Atkins, graphic designer for film, games, and real life; and Gemma O’Brien, artist and designer.

Diffusion Gradients in Adobe Illustrator

Diffusion gradients are a new feature coming to Adobe Illustrator. Gradients are used to add depth to your work, but linear and radial gradients are somewhat limiting. Diffusion gradients give you the ability to blend colors more naturally. With this feature, colors fuse and create a totally different look. You can fuse as many colors as you want for unlimited looks. You can also control the intensity and the transparency.

Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is a big thing with Adobe, but it’s not just for big business anymore. Think of this: Someone hands you a business card and you put it in front of your camera. The person’s product suddenly appears on the table. Or maybe an animation pops up and begins playing. According to Mark Asher, the director of corporate strategy at Adobe, “The technology to create eye-popping AR is finally ubiquitous.” To read more about it, check out this blog post from Adobe.

Cinemagraphs

Have you heard about cinemagraphs? They are the things that look like photos – until they begin to move. These meldings of still photos and video are easier to make than a video, and because of the movement, they are being used to make people engage with businesses. They are very different from GIFs but also have some similar qualities. To learn more about them, check out this blog post from Adobe.
