The Ultimate Couples Quiz from University Games challenges couples to three rounds of questioning to see who is the closest. Quizzes have long been a method of self-identification and compatibility, from “What’s your sign?” to magazine and website questionnaires to The Newlywed Game game show. While the analysis is fun in and of itself, The Ultimate Couples Quiz game lives up to its name with an extra level of wagering.
Setting up the Wager
To begin a game of The Ultimate Couples Quiz, players each receive an Answer Sheet to keep track of answers and points. More importantly, everyone participating also marks at the top a Couple’s Wager, setting stakes for the game. The rules suggest “the losing couple must make dinner for everyone” or “the losing couple must buy the next round of drinks,” but it can be anything everyone is willing to agree to do. This could be something completely silly or, for real daredevils, higher risk and reward. Like any partnership, it is up to the players involved to decide.
Three Rounds
Each game of The Ultimate Couples Quiz goes through three rounds. The first is “This or That,” in which players write their own answer as well as the answer they believe their partner will write down between two choices. The comparisons might be easy, like “binge-watch or one episode at a time,” or they may be more thought-provoking, such as “change the past or know the future.” The answers do not necessarily need to match since the points come from correctly guessing the partner’s answer, so the way to win is to know one’s partner the best.

Round two of The Ultimate Couples Quiz is a different challenge. Each couple at a time receives a “yes/no” paddle board and must answer the same way to the questions, which are a bit trickier than the first round. Players will have to answer immediately to questions like, “Do you believe ‘once a cheater, always a cheater’?” or “Are fancy restaurants worth the splurge?” Points in this round come in both giving the same response, giving credit to those couples who readily agree on things.
The third round of The Ultimate Couples Quiz goes back to the same format as the first round with answering questions in both one’s own opinion and what they think their partner would say. The questions are more intimate, such as “What is your partner’s biggest fear?” or “What small gesture makes your partner feel loved?” Other questions could spark some disagreement or laughter, like “Who is grumpier in the morning?” or “Who is better sticking to a budget?” Either way, the points come from knowing a partner best.
All in Good Fun
The Ultimate Couples Quiz is a party game for four to eight players (two to four couples) aged 18 and up. In addition to plenty of funny answers and maybe a few misunderstandings, it is an opportunity to test one another and one’s own perception of their partner. This can leading to learning more about each other, not to mention getting a good scope of the relationship.
