Israeli-based electronica musician Dylan Tauber released in August 2015 his ninth album titled Dolphin Trance. Combining dance, trance, and electronica, Tauber also uses dolphin and ocean sounds to create a set of 10 tracks spanning from relaxing to all-out dance party numbers. It’s as if he was hoping to capture three things at once: a day in the life of a dolphin, the ebb and flow of the ocean, and the ups and downs of life.
The tracks sound both familiar (as they feature typical synthesizer sounds, dance, techno, and electronica beats, and some percussion), and different because of the wave-like sound effects and what seems to be actual recordings of dolphin sounds. The chilled out trance track “Dolphin Trance” is the perfect introduction to this recognizable, yet different style.
“Life Feeling” has a great soothing feel to it. “Dolphin Cry 2.0 Trance Remix #1” is also chilled out—at least for the first half a minute or so. It then moves into a very familiar-sounding trance feel. In this slightly psychedelic number especially, Tauber doesn’t let listeners forget about dolphins but rather guides them into dancing, perhaps using bobbing movements inspired by this animal’s swimming technique.
The electronic dance track “The Sea Trance Remix” (which begins with near-classical strings) is bound to get bodies moving, with female vocals making it a poignant listen with great singalong quality. The vocals in “Dolphin Whisper Remix” are particularly haunting. The drum beats in “Dolphin Swim Trance Remix” are both quite ear-catching and with great dance-along quality. Other tracks bound to get listeners moving are the up-tempo and rhythmic “Carry Me Trance Remix” and “For Dylan Tauber”. Similarly, “Son of Waves 2.0 Trance Remix” takes almost a minute to warm up from emotive and poignant to all-out dance party.
Tauber’s Dolphin Trance comes highly recommended for fans of ambient, dance, and electronica. It is an album one can choose to listen to very attentively so as to catch its many nuances or to use as music either for an energetic, lounge-like get-together, or for a dance party. Tracks are available for streaming on ReverbNation. More information about the artist and his work can be found on his official website and on his Facebook page.
