IRS generally refers to the acronym of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. All U.S. taxpayers, both individuals and business, are required to file their federal tax returns with the IRS, thereby making the term a popular tag.
The IRS is a federal government agency and responsible for collecting federal taxes and enforcing federal tax laws and regulations. Taxes imposed by a particular state or locality are not the responsibility of the IRS. The IRS makes its tax forms and instructions available online.
The tag may also refer to I.R.S. Records, a record label in existence from 1979-1996. It was prevalent in the new wave and punk movements, releasing records from a wide variety of artists, including Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, The Go-Gos and R.E.M.
