Gibson celebrated the 2000th anniversary of the birth of an influential Jew named Jesus Christ with this elaborate tribute guitar two years ago. There is something about the intimate handling and manipulation required to play a guitar that makes me a bit leery of this instrument – I suppose we Lutherans prefer a less garish relationship with the Son of God. The art, by Bruce J. Kunkel, is certainly impressive but a bit too literal for my taste. I can see Southern Baptist Elvis Presley strumming out some swingin’ gospel with this baby, though.
