doctor’s excuse

Doctor's excuse is a statement often required by schools and employers as supporting documentation of an absence claimed to be due to an illness or injury.  A doctor's excuse is the broad term used to describe the written note or other documentation provided by a health care provider.

For a fee, various websites allow you to download or print a customizable, official-looking doctor's excuse. These sites justify the fake notes on the basis a person shouldn't need to go to the time and expense of a doctor's visit when suffering from minor ailments like a cold, sprain or allergies.  Aside from the ethical issues, being caught using a fake doctor's excuse could mean loss of a job, discipline by school officials or even being prosecuted for the crime of fraud.
