David Caruso was born in Forest Hills, Queens, New York on January 7, 1956. While appearing in many small roles for TV and film, his biggest claim to fame was his role as Detective John Kelly on the ABC network crime-drama NYPD Blue.
David Caruso played the popular character for 26 episodes from 1993 to 1994, to which he won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance, to launch a leading-man film career.
The 1995 William Friedkin-directed Jade is often cited as the turning point in his failed attempt at film stardom. That movie bust led to sporadic work until his return to TV in 2002 to star as Lieutenant Horatio Caine in the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation spin-off CSI: Miami.
