CD Review: The Casanovas

My interest in Casanova’s self titled CD was piqued when I discovered they hailed from Australia. Always eager to hear and experience new music, I was excited to discover what this band was all about.

What I got was a powerful hard hitting album, reminiscent of the early and trend setting AC/DC. It is no surprise they will be touring their native land fronting for Motley Crue for the month of December. Their music is a perfect companion for the icons of the genre.

Their video to their first single, “Livin’ In The City, can be seen here. (links to a Quicktime version found below) The song is as hard and fast as the subject matter, with guitar licks and drum beats to appease the most discriminate of hard rock fans.

I must admit, though it’s a new band, I find the music very nostalgic. As I mentioned the similarities to the Cure and AC/DC cannot be accidental and are more then slight. Everything old is new again, and the Casanovas self titled CD is no exception.

One track that is unique is the bonus one, “Aloha Steve and Dan.” This song is an interesting blend of the hard rock, with some alternative/punk influences. Peppered through out the tune are the righteous guitar licks of the Hawaii Five-O theme song. It is definitely the highlight of The Casanovas
