What is the greatest gift you can give to a child? I believe aside from nurturing your child with love and nutrition the next best thing you can do is to read to your child. College readiness starts when a child is a toddler. Reading quality books to a toddler is imperative. At an early age, the child can learn to appreciate the love of being read to, and, perhaps, he or she will develop a love affair with books.
Today, I am hugely honored to review a book that I believe is one of the best books that will help children quickly fall in love with reading. Award-winning children’s author Jennifer Dewing writes ABC What I Can Be. The illustrator, Colin Jack did an outstanding job illustrating the book. His unique retro style will draw the reader in right away.
In this whimsical and educational storybook, a child explores all the different careers in the alphabet that he or she can be–from an Astronaut to a Zookeeper. The book is personalized in the manuscript and throughout the entertaining illustrations.
The book builds self-esteem by showing the child at an early stage that with effort and determination, he, or she can be whatever the child wants to be.
As an educator and mother of three grown children, I value well-written books that can be both fun and educational. October is Bully Awareness Month, and this book can be used as a great resource to help instill a positive self-image in a child. Research has shown that children with high self-esteem are less likely to be bullied.
