Adobe Systems Incorporated has just released a few new features to their Adobe Photoshop CS5 platform to take on the new proliferation of devices that have come to the market since their last release. These include both the mobile and tablet devices.

The first item is a new Adobe Photoshop Software Developers Kit (SDK) that will allow developers to directly communicate with Photoshop. Through the use of the SDK, software developers will be able to harness the power of Adobe Photoshop to create new applications. These applications will be able to communicate with traditional computers, mobile devices, tablet computers, and other specialized devices.

Adobe is also releasing three new Photoshop CS5 companion applications for the iPad that have the ability to interact with your desktop computer. The first is called Adobe Eazel and it will allow you to create paintings on your iPad. The second is called Adobe Nav. It will allow you to use your iPad to navigate your desktop/laptop copy of Photoshop interactively. This way you can select tools and manipulate objects from your iPad without having to use your mouse. The third app is called Adobe Color Lava. It lets you select and mix colors on your iPad and transfer them to your swatch panel in Photoshop. You can choose colors and even mix them together with your finger.

The final change is new subscription pricing. This will allow you to purchase Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CS5 Extended on a month-to-month pricing scheme. For Photoshop Standard it is $49/month on a month-to-month basis, and $35/month if you agree to pay for a year. For Photoshop Extended, it is $75/month, month-to-month, and $49/month for a year.

The Photoshop CS5 Update will be available free for owners of Photoshop CS5, Photoshop CS5 Extended, and Creative Suite owners on April 11, 2011. The SDK will be available for free on April 11, 2011. The iPad Apps will be available in the iTunes store in May and will be priced as follows. Adobe Eazel – $4.99, Adobe Color Lava – $2.99, and Adobe Nav – $1.99.
