Willie Nelson: Against War and Death

New song and music video from Willie Nelson called “Jimmy’s Road.” With just Willie singing and backing himself on guitar, the song is a spare folkish story of “Jimmy” from childhood to soldier to casualty. I guess it works okay as a song – I am predisposed to like Willie’s music – but I am not sure what the message is, since there is clearly supposed to be a message on a site called “peace.”

Would there be “peace” if there were no soldiers, in particular no American soldiers? I think perhaps there would be quite a bit less peace than there is now if all the potential subjugators, land-grabbers, tyrants and despots, fascists and religious fanatics had no one to hinder their most pernicious desires and impulses.
