You don’t hear about a lot of Armenian-American baseball players, or rock stars for that matter. From a press release:
- System of a Down guitarist and L.A. Dodgers fan DARON MALAKIAN has made the team for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 45th Annual “Hollywood Stars” baseball game to be held at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, August 9. Introductions will begin at 5PM with the exhibition game starting at 5:30PM. The “Hollywood” and “Stars” celebrity teams will square off for about an hour.
“I’ve been going to Dodgers games since I was a kid,” said Malakian. “I can’t believe I’m going to take batting practice and play baseball on the field at Dodger Stadium. This really is a dream come true for me.”
….Following Malakian’s major league baseball endeavor, System of a Down will share the top of the bill with Metallica at the Leeds (August 22) and Reading (August 24) festivals in the UK, and then begin work on their follow-up to 2001’s critically-acclaimed, multi-Platinum album, “Toxicity.”
Baseball seems to be a great leveler, taking in every point on the political compass. Have fun.
