Sound and Vision

Bowie double DVD to accompany new hits collection:

David Bowie’s often groundbreaking videos have been collected for a new DVD, Best Of Bowie, due out November 19. The 47-song, two-disc set is designed to complement the two separate Best Of Bowie CD releases–one single-disc set and one double-disc set–coming out October 22.

Besides familiar clips such as “Heroes,” “Ashes To Ashes,” “Let’s Dance,” “China Girl,” “Modern Love,” and “Blue Jean,” the DVD includes a number of rare and vintage Bowie TV performances, such as “Starman” from Top Of The Pops, “Young Americans” from The Dick Cavett Show, and three songs–“Oh! You Pretty Things,” “Five Years,” and “Queen Bitch”–taken from the British TV show, The Old Grey Whistle Test.

The set also includes Bowie’s rendition of Martha & the Vandellas’ Motown staple “Dancing In The Street” performed with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger for the 1985 Live Aid concerts. Bowie is currently in the midst of a five-night New York City stand that next plays Wednesday (October 16) at Colden Center in Queens.

Concert Review: Trio Wanderer Play Schumann, Liszt, Ravel at Bargemusic

The French ensemble played a muscular concert of Piano Trios by Schumann and Ravel, along with Liszt's weird and wily "Tristia – La Vallée d'Obermann" and an invigorating encore by Lili Boulanger.
