Make this the week you discover Eden Brent...

Sara Bareilles, Eden Brent, Interpol Headline New Music Tuesday

One of my favorite albums of 2010 gets its official release today and I don’t really feel like talking about most of the other titles on the list but I’m going to be a good sport and give them their due before telling you all what you should be buying.

Sara Bareilles has a new record out today called Kaleidoscope Heart.  I’ll allow it.  I’m not excited about it.  I’m not buying it.  She seems pleasant and harmless.  She found an audience with her previous record and I’ve already seen and heard some press for this one.  What little I’ve heard didn’t sound drastically different from her previous effort, which I suppose is good news for the folks who dug that.

Interpol has a self-titled release out today, Stone Sour is releasing Audio Secrecy and I don’t care but there’s also Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place from Anberlin.

That’s about all I can stand.  We’ve got to talk about the best record coming out this week and one of the best you’re going to hear this year.

Eden Brent
Ain’t Got No Troubles

Troubles is the follow-up to Mississippi Number 1, an album that helped singer/songwriter/pianist Eden Brent score a small fistful of awards.  Brent has become a major success in the blues world but don’t let that frighten you away because this is a record without borders.  The title track from has been featured on NPR and the previews – including my own – have been very positive.  Yes, Brent plays and sings the blues and she is wonderful at it but these songs and her style extend beyond that.  This is music: you don’t need a genre or an explanation, just a CD player or an iPod and two ears.  She plays, you listen- that’s how it works.  Take a chance on this record!

Music Review: Sara Bareilles – ‘What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress’

This 'Waitress,' in addition to being a good album on its own, makes me want to see the show. And that's saying something. On this album, the pop songstress sings songs from her new musical herself (with a little help from Jason Mraz). 'Waitress' the musical opens on Broadway in the spring of 2016.
