Dexter Gordon is recognized by jazz historians and aficionados as one of the genre's most influential tenor saxophonists. The tag review dexter gordon is popular for reviews of Gordon's music.

Gordon, who died in 1990 at age 67, appeared on dozens of recordings beginning at age 18. He was one of the first bebop saxophone players. Gordon was elected to the Downbeat Hall of Fame in 1980 and was named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 1986.

Gordon also was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1986 for his portrayal of a fictional tenor sax player in the film 'Round Midnight. That movie may also contribute to the popularity of the review dexter gordon tag.
