Thirteen songs, including two written by Prince, show off Warfield's "alternative R&B soul."

Prince Protégé Liv Warfield Releases New Album – ‘The Unexpected’

Liv WarfieldOn February 18, 2014 Prince protégé and New Power Generation vocalist will unleash her latest album, The Unexpected. The album is a rock-tinged blast of “alternative R&B soul,” as described by Warfield. Prince served as the album’s executive producer and co-wrote the song “Your Show” with Warfield. The title track is a Prince original as well.

The album, issued by Kobalt Music Group, will be available as a digital download. The Unexpected is the follow-up to Warfield’s 2006 debut, Embrace Me. “I’ve finally tapped into my chi and that’s just letting yourself go, no boundries,” Warfield states in her official press notes, adding, “I’m in full flight right now.”

An experienced performer, Warfield has performed with such luminaries as Al Green, B.B. King, and The Roots. But it’s her association with Prince that has received the most attention. Of her mentor, Warfield says, “From the studio to the stage, he has taught me how to be an artist.” VH-1 recently made Warfield their latest You Oughta Know artist, calling her “Prince-approved.” Check out her sizzling performance of “Why Do You Lie” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The Unexpected
is available for download beginning February 18 and includes 13 songs.
