nutrisystems

NutriSystem is a commercial weight loss program, which helps make the tag nutrisystems popular. It began as brick-and-mortar weight loss centers in 1972 but now only sells direct to consumers through its website, TV commercials, print advertising, infomercials and QVC.

The program, often referred to as nutrisystems, ships portion-controlled, pre-packaged meals to the customer's door. Customers typically buy a 28-day supply of three meals a day plus snacks. Costs run $10-$11 a day if the customer signs up for "auto-delivery," where a month's supply of food is sent automatically until the customer notifies the company to stop the shipments. NutriSystem also offers customers online and telephone counseling and support.

Like other commercial diet programs, NutriSystem has used a variety of celebrity spokespersons. These have included Jillian Barberie, Marie Osmond, Tori Spelling, Tony Orlando, and former NFL quarterback Dan Marino.
