Adobe Lightroom is the software product from Adobe Systems that is primarily focused at the photography market. While targeted at the professional photographer, it is also very applicable to the advanced amateur as well as anyone who tries to maintain a large catalog of photographic images.
At its heart Adobe Lightroom is a cataloging system that allows the photographer to import, process, manage, and showcase images. It consists of five primary modules: a library, a developer, Slideshow, Print, and Web, each that moves workflow systematically from shoot to finish.
Built on the technology that is contained within Adobe Photoshop, and with its spotlight on photographers, Adobe Lightroom is a very focused product. While Adobe Lightroom can be the only product a photographer may need, it is more of a companion product to Adobe Photoshop, than a replacement, with Lightroom handling the management, global corrections, and presentation, and Photoshop handling the unusual needs and image specific corrections.
