From Kings of Leon’s latest album, Mechanical Bull, comes the highly cinematic video for their new single “Beautiful War.” The video was directed by Casey McGrath, who co-produced the feature-length 2011 documentary, Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon.
Seeking a vintage ‘70s-era Western movie look, McGrath drew inspiration from the 1980 John Travolta hit Urban Cowboy. The clip stars actor Garrett Hedlund (Friday Night Lights, Tron: Legacy) as a prisoner wrapped up in a treacherous prison-yard rodeo. Over the course of the six-minute short film, we see how Hedlund’s character came to be locked up in the first place.
Kings of Leon’s acclaimed Mechanical Bull, a worldwide hit, debuted in September 2013 at number two on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.
