Glee star Kevin McHale talks about the upcoming Teen Choice Awards, airing this Sunday, July 22 at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Glee’s Kevin McHale Excited to Co-Host Teen Choice 2012

This Sunday, teens across the country get to have their voice heard about all things movies, TV, and music during Teen Choice 2012. At the helm of this year’s festivities is Glee star Kevin McHale and newly minted X-Factor judge Demi Lovato.

McHale, who previously co-hosted the awards show back in 2010, alongside Katy Perry and his fellow Glee co-stars Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, and Mark Salling, said that this time around there’s more responsibility on his end, but he’s excited.

“I’m looking forward to kind of being able to spend a little time with Demi and having the spontaneity of it being live, because you can only plan so much. So, I’m going to hopefully be prepared for anything,” he explained during a press call earlier this week

The Glee star mentioned during the call that he and Lovato hadn’t had time to rehearse quite yet, due to the pop star’s busy X Factor schedule. However, he’s looking forward to their back and forth interactions during Sunday night’s show.

“I think we’ll have good chemistry up on stage,” he said. “It’ll be fun to kind of mess around, and I’m extremely self-deprecating, so I’m all for being made fun of. It’s going to be fun to kind of see what happens when we work on the script for the show and whatnot.”

As far as his hosting duties are concerned, McHale has a couple do’s and don’ts for himself, including trying to play it cool in front of other celebrities.

“Because it’s live, I guess you have to watch what you say and keep it together. It’s going to be fun and luckily I have Demi to lean on and likewise for her,” he shared.

“I’m excited to see No Doubt, so hopefully I won’t act like a fan girl in front of all the people that I like. I should probably stay professional. My goal is to act like an actual host and not like a fan.”

After touring the United States and overseas last summer with his fellow Glee cast mates, McHale is no stranger to performing in front of a live audience. But, the actor did share that there are some healthy nerves involved when it comes to hosting an awards show on live television.

“My favorite thing on the planet is performing in front of a live audience. Like on tour, I actually loved it,” he said. “Granted, this is talking. I prefer to be singing in front of a live audience, so yes, this is a little nerve-wracking, but I think a little nervous energy I great for this sort of thing. It keeps you on your toes.”

With the Glee actor tackling live television with one of today’s hottest pop stars by his side, one might wonder about the possibility of seeing Lovato on the fourth season of the popular television show. McHale seems keen on the idea.

“I would love for her to come on. I mean, we haven’t met any of [Artie’s] family, and so she could be my sister, right? I’m all for that.”

You can catch Glee’s Kevin McHale and The X Factor’s Demi Lovato co-hosting Teen Choice 2012 on Sunday, July 22 at 8 p.m. on FOX.
