The steamroller that is Ray Charles’s swan song, Genius Loves Company, continues to flatten all barriers in its path:
– Genius Loves Company received eight Grammy Awards – it now holds the record for most awarded album in one year with Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Santana’s Supernatural
– This is the first time Charles has won the Album of the Year Grammy.
– Genius Loves Company has sold over 4 million copies worldwide, making it the best selling recording of Ray’s career
– It has been certified triple-platinum in the US, as well as platinum, gold and silver in Canada, the UK, France and many other countries around the world
– Ray and Gladys Knight are nominated for the Outstanding Duo or Group in the upcoming NAACP Awards.
– First platinum album for Concord Records and the first time that the label has topped the Billboard charts
Were I a cynical sort, I might conclude there is nothing as good for one’s career as dying.
We have reviews of the album by the MuzikMan, El Bicho, and myself.
