BC Music is proud to give 10 lucky readers the chance to win the latest CD, Shine, from Joni Mitchell.
It's been ten years since we've seen a completely new album from Joni Mitchell, but Shine was worth the wait. She wrote the lyrics to nine of the ten songs herself, the only exception is the closing track "If," which was adapted from the Rudyard Kipling poem.
A special treat midway through the album is a reinvented version of her classic song "Big Yellow Taxi." The song which comments on the energy crisis seems to be even timelier now than when it was first written, and is delivered in a modern style that still remains true to Mitchell. In a recent press release, she commented on the song, "The idea of this song wasn’t popular when I first recorded it, and it’s not now either…It’s taken people a long time to see that we have to cut back on our electricity, but we won’t."
Shine is the second album to be relesed on Starbuck's new label, Hear Records. The first was Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full. The album follows a ten year self-imposed sabbatical after becoming disillusioned with the music business.
