Part of the RIAA’s ongoing PR campaign against file swapping is to portray swappers as amoral, inconsiderate, greedy freeloaders who aren’t willing to abide by the rules of civil society. The ongoing hacker attacks on the RIAA’s site (another one over the weekend) is counterproductive at best because it plays right into the RIAA’s characterization. It was amusing the first time or two but now it’s just boring, malicious and self-defeating.
I have a suggestion: spend the time you are putting into hacking the RIAA’s site into informing your representatives and the public at large about the dangers to our rights and freedoms imposed by the DMCA, and DRM in general. Now that would be helpful.
