Walt Disney Studios previews big titles from their upcoming roster.

CinemaCon 2022: Walt Disney Studios

Pixar showed 30 minutes of Lightyear. Buzz’s hubris causes him to damage the ship and as a result those on the mission are trapped on a planet with dangerous flora and fauna. They have to mine resources to test that the hyperfuel is stable. Buzz is the test pilot, but it turns out while he experiences four minutes during the test, on the planet they experience four. He keeps trying and keeps failing. His friend Alisha gets him Sox, a robot cat, who figures out the fuel problem but it takes him 62 years. However, the new commander informs Buzz they have decided to stay. Lightyear looks like a good science fiction story that isn’t necessarily Toy Story related. But the story seems rather adult as Buzz deals with the death of his friend.

Marvel provided an extended look about 15-20 min of Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Strange is having nightmares where he battles with young girl against a fire creature that is chasing them. During Christine’s wedding reception, an eyeball creature is chasing the girl from Strange’s dream. Her name is America Chavez and she can travel between Multiverse. Strange goes to see Wanda. Says he’s not going to deal with Westview, referring to the WandaVision Disney+ TV series. (I find that very disappointing considering how the series ended.) Kevin Feige mentioned Thor: Love and Thunder coming in July, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever coming in November, and that he was meeting with Marvel team about the next decade.

From the 20th Century Studios wing comes the following:

David O. Russell’s Amsterdam is a star-studded affair with Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington. I wasn’t sure of the the story from the trailer, but it sure the looks interesting.

From The Bob’s Burgers Movie, we got six minutes where a sinkhole blocks the entrance to restaurant. Six years ago, there was a shooting at the boardwalk. Bob makes a burger for the bank president to butter him up in regards to a loan. Meanwhile, the kids are looking forward to summer, and Tina is hoping for a summer boyfriend.

Producer Jon Landau came out to inform the audience that a remastered Avatar is going to be released on September 23. Avatar: The Way of Water is set for December 16, and the trailer will be paired with Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Like the original, The Way of Water footage presented looks visually impressive; however, it doesn’t make the same medium-changing leaps forward the first film did so the response should be interesting.

Coming out in the fall are The Menu and Banshees of Inisherin.

In 2023, Disney will be releasing under their various banners The Marvels, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantamania, Haunted Mansion, and the next Indiana Jones film.
