cat

In spite of the dog's reputation as "man's best friend," there are more cats currently residing in US households than dogs. Admired for their grace and agility, these small, carnivorous animals have long been companions to humans, with some scientists believing that the domestication of the cat may have occurred as long as 9,500 years ago. The remains of mummified cats have been discovered in Egyptian tombs. Long the subject of many myths and superstitions, the cat has been seen as an object of worship during some periods of history and reviled as the companion of evil during others.

Many communities struggle with the problem of feral cat colonies. Dealing with these cats humanely involves strategies for trapping them and then spaying or neutering them before returning them to the wild. Adult feral cats do not usually make suitable pets, but if kittens can be captured early in life, they make fine companions.

People who share their lives with cats can find many resources on the Internet that provide advice on the care and feeding of these lovely animals. Many bloggers like to write about cats, and some cats even have their own blogs.
