Joshua Davidson thinks he might be a clone from the blood on the shroud of Turin.

Book Review: The Peril of the Sinister Scientist by Janet Ann Collins

The life of a tween can be one of many intrigues. Joshua Davidson is a typical teen who experiences many adventures that will keep the most passive reader in total suspense. Joshua is convinced that he is being stalked by a strange man. His fears lead him to do some very strange things. His friends and classmates start to wonder whether he has gone crazy.

Having a very vivid imagination Joshua believes he was cloned from the scrapings of blood on the Shroud of Turin. His number one mission in life is to prove he is the clone of Christ, or perhaps the son of a criminal.

The obsession with who he is takes many twists and turns. His story is well written:  it chronicles the realities of what most tweens go through in search of self-discovery. Reading this book gave me a lot to think about. Even though Joshua is being raised by a single mom, he is very lucky in that his mom does care and love him very much. Not all tweens are fortunate to have loving parents. The story gives hope that with support tweens can overcome any hardships.

I was also very impressed with the religious aspect of this great story. It is quite refreshing to see that one of Joshua’s friends prayed for him and gave him a Bible. In today’s world it is not unusual for tweens to be badly influenced into doing drugs and getting involved with gangs in order to deal with their problems.

Janet Ann Collins should be highly praised for writing a suspenseful and timely tale that can help young people learn how to deal with peer pressures and other valuable lessons in life.
