I so love it when authors come up with a clever way to write their books. Jane Tesh’s new children’s musical, Land of Lost Socks, with music and lyrics by Joni Klein-Higger, is very well penned.
The story chronicles Joel who desires to be with big brother Bart, who wants to hang out with his friends without Joel tagging along. When Bart tells Joel to “Get lost,” in an instant Joel ends up in the Land of Lost Socks.
Joel encounters a slew of lost items such as socks, keys, hats, umbrellas, shoes, overdue library books. The most fascinating and clever part o f the book is we meet the famous lost pilot, Amelia Earhart, the Dares from The Lost Colony of Colonial times, and the Mayans. What the authors have done is in my opinion an ingenuous way to introduce children to snippets of history.
This musical will be a hit in classrooms worldwide. The lessons to be learned from reading this book is very clear. Here’s a concrete example:
(BART, JOEL, TUBE, ARGYLE, DARES, MAYANS , ANASAZIS SING:)
WHAT A HAPPIER PLACE
THIS WORLD WOULD BE
OH, WOULDN’T IT BE FINE
(ENSEMBLE SINGS:)
WHEN WE RESPECT ONE ANOTHER,
ARE CAREFUL WHAT WE DO AND SAY
WE’LL MAKE A BETTER TOMORROW
WHY, WE COULD EVEN BRIGHTEN THE DARKEST
DAY
COME ON AND JOIN IN OUR JOURNEY
TO ALWAYS BE GOOD AND KIND
SUCH A HAPPIER PLACE
THIS WORLD WOULD BE
OH, WOULDN’T IT BE FINE
I think we can always get inspired to make our world a better place for all, by being kind to one another. I loudly applaud Jane Tesh and Joni Klein-Higger for writing such a timely and entertaining book.
