Tell Tale Signs contains unreleased recordings, studio demos, alternate takes and live tracks of material from 1989 to 2006 and was released in four versions. The main version is a two-disc CD set with 27 tracks and a 60-page booklet with an extensive essay and liner notes. The majority of the tracks come from recording sessions for Oh Mercy (1989), the Grammy Award-winning Time Out Of Mind (1997) and Modern Times (2006). There is also a one-CD version, a four-LP version and a deluxe edition that has a third CD with 12 more tracks and a 150-page hardcover book of Dylan's singles artwork.
