Scott Butki

Scott Butki was a newspaper reporter for more than 10 years before making a career change into education... then into special education. He has been working in mental health for the last ten years. He lives in Austin. He reads at least 50 books a year and has about 15 author interviews each year and, yes, unlike tv hosts he actually reads each one. He is an in-house media critic, a recovering Tetris addict and a proud uncle. He has written articles on practically all topics from zoos to apples and almost everything in between.

W. Md. Reacts to Katrina

Today’s theme ended up being less Labor Day than Katrina Day. But I suppose that happened with lots of people this weekend as we think less about a day without work as people without jobs, let alone homes. After days of reading about the suffering in Katrina’s wake tonight I …

Some Good Katrina Media Coverage

I have seen some excellent media coverage of the storm disaster and its impact and a great deal of terribly sensationalistic coverage. I thought I’d take a moment to point to two stories that I think are excellent, the kind of journalism I would have been proud to have run …

Book Review: Cold Service by Robert Parker

Robert Parker is from the old school of crime writing, but he is still a master, and with his latest book, Cold Service, he seems to return to the top of his game. While reading this, I came across several interesting sites relating to Parker. Between those sites and reviews …

Four Quick Movie Reviews

This is my first post for Blogcritics.org and I’m kind of excited about that. I’m a reporter-turned-educator in the middle of a career change from journalism to elementary education. I write book and movie reviews for a blog I started partially to fill the need to keep writing. Time to …
