Anguilla’s Tranquility Jazz Festival

With every one of these Caribbean music festivals I announce (Jam Cruise 3 in January, Bermuda going on RGHT NOW, Turks and Caicos, Caymans) I get one step closer to signing up myself – only money, time, and young children are holding me back, that’s all.

The latest to be announced is the Tranquility Jazz Festival on the island of Anguilla, coming November 10-14:

The Anguilla Tourist Board announces the second annual Tranquility Jazz Festival, scheduled for Wednesday, November 10 to Sunday, November 14, in Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory bounded by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Produced by BET Event Productions, the Tranquility Jazz Festival will feature performances by world-renowned jazz artists and some of the island and region’s most talented musicians. Audiences will enjoy performances each evening at the Cuisinart Resort and the LA Cafe, and the grand finale of the festival will be a “Jazz Beach Party” at Sandy Ground.

Anguilla’s Director of Tourism, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch states, “This event provides us with a great opportunity to communicate the beauty of our beaches, the friendliness of our people, and the exclusive charm of our overall destination. We look forward to providing jazz lovers with an extraordinary setting in which to enjoy some of today’s legendary artists.”

Highlights for this year’s festival include: pianist Cyrus Chestnut , who began his career playing alongside some of the jazz world’s biggest names, including Wynton Marsalis, Donald Harrison & Terence Blanchard, Freddie Hubbard and Betty Carter, performing with a trio featuring the inimitable jazz vocalist Carla Cook ; Latin percussionist/bandleader Ray Barretto, one of the leading forces in Latin Jazz for over 40 years, who will be part of a “Latin Jazz Explosion” show with Brazilian vocal/percussion duo Flora Purim and Airto; the Mingus Dynasty Big Band; vocalist Carmen Lundy, who has recorded with jazz veterans Walter Bishop, Jr., Barretto and Don Pullen to name a few; and saxophonist/flutist James Spaulding, one of the jazz world’s most renowned sidemen and session leaders. Top regional artists include the Anguilla Jazz Ensemble, St. Lucian Boo Hinkson and Trinidadian Michael Boothman.

Anguilla is a pristine and private escape wrapped in a beautiful and brilliant turquoise sea. This island features 33 stunning, powder-soft white sand beaches, warm and friendly people, a wide range of first-class accommodations, activities and entertainment that can provide you with fun throughout the day and late into the night and more. It’s the recipe for the perfect world-class vacation. To learn more, visit www.anguilla-vacation.com.
