WWE Battleground Results: October 6, 2013

The first edition of Battleground came live from Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York. It was the ninth pay-per-view of the 2013 line-up.

Dolph Ziggler Vs Damien Sandow
(Singles Match)
Result: Ziggler won the match by three-count, hitting Sandow with a Zig Zag.

Match #1
Alberto Del Rio Vs Rob Van Dam (with Ricardo Rodriguez)
(Battleground Hardcore Rule Match for the World Heavyweight Championship)
Result: Del Rio locked RVD in a cross arm bar with his arm trapped in the steel chair, forcing him to submit, thus retaining the championship via Submission.

The Real Americans (Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro) (with Zeb Colter) Vs The Great Khali and Santino Marella
(Tag Team Match)
Result: Cesaro showed a brilliant display of power, swinging the 347-pound Great Khali for nearly a dozen seconds, and then getting the three-count to lead his team to victory.

Curtis Axel (with Paul Heyman) Vs R-Truth
(Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship)
Result: Axel won the match via pinfall, attacking Truth with a one-armed swinging neckbreaker, thus retaining the Intercontinental Championship.

AJ Lee Vs Brie Bella

(Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship)
Result: Lee retained the championship via a quick roll-up after Tamina Snuka (daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka) distracted Bella.

Goldust and Cody Rhodes (with Dusty Rhodes) Vs The Shield (Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins) (with Dean Ambrose)

(This was a Tag Team Match with the stipulation that if Goldust and Cody won, they would be reinstated by WWE and if The Shield won, Dusty would lose his job as an NXT trainer and the Rhodes family would be banned from the WWE.)
Cody Rhodes won the match for his team and family by pinfall after he hit Rollins with a Cross Rhodes. Later, various WWE superstars came out of their locker rooms to congratulate the Rhodes family.

Bray Wyatt (with Erick Rowan and Luke Harper) Vs Kofi Kingston
(Singles Match)
Result: Wyatt defeated Kofi by pinfall following his finishing move, Sister Abigail.

Ryback (with Paul Heyman) Vs CM Punk
(Singles Match)
Result: Punk secured the pinfall victory on Ryback after he attacked him with a low blow.

Match #8
Randy Orton Vs Daniel Bryan
(Singles Match for the vacant WWE Championship)
Result: The match ended with no winner after Big Show interrupted it when Bryan had applied the Yes Lock on Orton. He first knocked out the referee and then Daniel Bryan. General Manager of Raw Brad Maddox came out and sent another referee, but Show knocked him out too. Later, he KO’ed Orton to clear the ring, thus ending the PPV in total shock.

With the WWE Championship still vacated, the winner may be decided at the upcoming Hell in a Cell PPV scheduled to be held on October 27 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. WWE fans may buy the WWE Hell in a Cell 2013 tickets now.
