Alto Heceta: This Distance, This Weekend
Alto Heceta, who has performed with the likes of Rainer Maria, Cursive, Jets to Brazil, Joan of Arc, and most recently, Karate, now takes a measurable step out of the long shadow cast by emo rock in the Midwest. Though vestiges of emo are scattered throughout the album, This Distance, This Weekend is decidedly a rock album filled with gorgeous walls of guitar, impeccable drumming, as well as alternating vocalists that have matured considerably.

Add N to [X] — an otherworldly live performance
London-based trio, Add N to [X] make some of the most creative rock on the block. Taking their name from a computer program command that creates an unknown electronic third force, Add N to [X] have themselves become a ingenious force in underground music.

8 Mile: Eminem's foray into acting
As a general naysayer, I will admit I thought this movie was going to suck. Despite a few less significant shortcomings, there were several strong points to the film.

Wire: Behind the Curtains
This album is graced with 5 never-before-heard live tracks from a gig at the Roxy back in 1977, as well as a handful of demos that have never appeared on any of their studio releases. The most curious element of this album, however, is the twenty or so alternate outtakes of Wire's more well-known tracks from their first three albums.

A Tale of Two Rock Concerts: Sleater-Kinney and Clinic
This has been a great week for rock fans in the Twin Cities area. First, Sleater-Kinney on Tuesday, then, Clinic, Apples in Stereo, and The Standard, on Friday. While one was 90 minutes of pure rock wizardry, the other was singularly disappointing.
