I am a writer and visual artist, inveterate blogger, community activist and long time Houstonian. Invariably find myself at the intersection of public service and creative endeavor and I am happiest when the two merge. I like my life and the things in which I am engaged. However, I am continuously outraged by what is happening right now in our country. Women, healthcare, immigration and education are all under assault. Seems to me a lot of folks aren't looking out for the common good. I take great issue with the mean spiritedness and shortsightedness of so many in Congress and the Texas legislature. As a grandmother of four, I must ask, "What kind of world are we creating for for these bright, brave little people?" Do we care? Currently serve as civic art consultant for a City of Houston building project and it's my task to work with artists as they create new work for this facility that reflects Houston's energy and cultural diversity. I also write. A lot. Just finished a piece that will be published in fall 2011 in a collection of memoirs by women living life's transitions.

No coincidence that women’s healthcare and environmental regulations are both under siege.
