The Allman Brothers Band‘s classic live album At Fillmore East has been expanded into a new box set. The 6-CD The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings, including 15 unreleased tracks, just hit the stores, but read on to see how you can win a copy from Blogcritics!
Remastered in 5.1 Surround Sound, the box set has 37 tracks including all four performances from the legendary weekend of March 12-13, plus the band’s headlining set from the Fillmore East’s closing weekend.
Bill Graham’s New York City rock venue was open for only three years, but between 1968 and 1971 the Fillmore East hosted dozens of iconic acts, including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Byrds, Elvin Bishop, Van Morrison, Joe Cocker, The Chambers Brothers, Miles Davis, Derek and the Dominoes, The Grateful Dead, CSNY, Jefferson Airplane, Taj Mahal, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Laura Nyro, Frank Zappa and more.
The Allman Brothers Band played there so many times that it was almost possible to think of them as “Bill Graham’s House Band.” They were on the bill at the invitation-only closing night show on June 27, 1971 along with The J. Geils Band and Albert King, along with special guests The Beach Boys, Edgar Winter’s White Trash, Country Joe McDonald, and Mountain.
As the Allman Brothers near what are billed as the very last shows of their legendary career – in New York City, appropriately enough – what better time to pick up a new set highlighting the band at the peak of their powers?
