White House Steps Up Its Game Against Fox News, Other Networks Object

Over the past few weeks the White House has made it clear which news outlet is their rival and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs used the jargon of baseball to describe their attack on Fox News: “The only way to get somebody to stop crowding the plate is to throw a fastball at them. They move.” Considering their tactic is much more brutal, the Oval Office using an oval ball, engaging in a contact sport, yet without any set rules, it is no surprise that many are perplexed. Even though tensions developed between Fox News and the White House over the denied interview with President Obama during his Sunday Show media blitz last September, “game on” became evident with Anita Dunn’s verbal kickoff — getting the ball rolling by publicly discrediting Fox News. “It’s opinion journalism masquerading as news”.

Continuing the more appropriate sports metaphor, the White House offensive linemen, David Axlerod and Rahm Emanuel, were quick to protect their quarterback, Obama, against criticism by attempting to brand Fox News as an “illegitimate” team in the game of news. And in an effort to score an early touchdown, this administration has been trying to influence public opinion against Fox News, going so far as to include an effort to persuade other news organizations to “not be led in following Fox.”

Meanwhile, this week, in an interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, President Obama compared Fox News to “talk radio,” yet stated that he’s “not losing any sleep over it.” And yesterday, October 22, 2009, the White House stepped up its game with an unprecedented maneuver: a 63-yard field goal attempt. “The administration contacted the White House pool, a five-network rotation, that has for decades shared the cost and duties of daily coverage of the presidency and to which Fox News has belonged since 1997.”

The White House made available for round-robin interviews the Executive Pay Czar, Kenneth Feinberg, however, the administration specified, “all members of the pool were welcome,” but for Fox News: ACCESS DENIED! However, unlike Jason Elam, of the Denver Broncos, who actually scored with an amazing 63-yard field goal, this one was blocked, and it is quite astounding by whom. The Washington Bureau Chiefs of the five pool TV news networks, ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC, consulted, and “decided that none of them would interview Feinberg, unless Fox was included”. The administration relented and made Feinberg available to all five pool members and Bloomberg TV –– Major Garret got his interview.

No points scored in this quarter of the game because the collective media dared to stand up for the press. Kudos! While it is difficult to determine which team is winning this match, we do know that it has improved Fox News’ ratings and many politicians, pundits and citizens are criticizing this new White House strategy. So where does it go from here? With an administration that has more important things to deal with, such as our troops and the Afghanistan war, the economy, unemployment, health care, our environment and all the other issues facing our nation, let’s hope we will soon see –– GAME OVER!

Holy shit. A Jason Elam reference out of nowhere. Are you hiding a Bill Gramatica card anywhere?

  • http://blogcritics.org/writers/christine-lakatos/ Christine

Matt, I figured you’d find it. I even linked the video footage. Damn incredible if you ask me!

There is so much wrong with this targeting, I can’t even begin. Not that I like Fox, and I do not care for many of its commentators, but this is only one example of strongarming the opposition. I’m sure a psychiatrist would have a field day with the analysis…

    Christine,

Why? What are YOU cheering for? Do you even know luv?

  • http://blogcritics.org/writers/christine-lakatos/ Christine

Zedd, not sure the question. The cheers are for the press that stood up! And not sure what you are getting at about the luv question?

This is what I was anticipating when I said that anyone who sides with the White House will look partisan, and anyone who sides with Fox News will make the White House look stupid. The White House is practically shaming the press into opposing them.

All of this would be fine if FOX News was actually a news network. What little news that comes out of FOX is laughable.

No other supposed news outlet openly and actively sponsored anti-Obama and anti-government rallies across the country. No other news outlet has an owner and president so openly in opposition to the federal government in general and President Obama in particular. And no other news outlet employs an idiot on the level of Glenn Beck.

. No other news outlet has an owner and president so openly in opposition to the federal government in general…

    All should.

All should be continually questioning and challenging every single move the government makes, and publishing not only their questions and challenges but also every one of the government’s reactions.

That’s what a free press is for.

    Clav,

    I agree wholeheartedly.

Fox, unfortunately, failed utterly to do this during the Bush administration.

I applaud this administration’s efforts. I don’t think I remember anyone criticizing the Bush Administration when it pulled Bill Maher off of the air. It’s time for everyone to understand that this President must be respected like all those before him. If you don’t like it, move to another country!

  • http://www.republicofdave.com Dave Nalle

Seymour, the Bush administration had nothing to do with Maher being taken off the air. Maher was taken off by his network because people were offended that he had made a joke about 9/11 so soon after it happened. That’s it. End of story. The WH played no role in it at all.

What this all reminds me of is the blacklist which started in the 1940s where Truman’s administration began targetting businesses and particular figures in industry for blacklisting and exclusion from government contracts. The motivation is different, but the technique is very familiar.

Btone proudly displays the fascist tendencies he shares with dek Komissar Obama.

Have we ever had such a thin skinned president?

Keith Olbemrann could hardly be called serious by any serious person yet I don’t recall the Bush administration singling him out or picking fights with MSNBC.

What is it about the modern American leftist that makes him/her so obscenely intolerant of anything that differs from their own world view if even in the slightest?

It’s been almost a year and the usual semantic hand grenade “racist” just doesn’t pack the punch it once did. In fact it hardly packs any these days as the glitter of “hope and change” has turned to rust.

Big Bary has been in office for nearly a year and we have spent 1 trillion dollars on a stimulus which has produced only higher unemployment and an ever sinking dollar.

The guy, as I knew last November, is a complete and utter hack. He’s not even good enough to get his own lefty agenda passed with a congressful of minions.

It’s amusing watching moonbats the nation over trying to blame FOX news for Obama’s sinking popularity and the ubiquitous futility of this administration. This is of course bullshit for if Big Barry truly were making changes that improved the lives of Americans no news organization or radio talk show host would be able to hide this fact.

Most Americans, even most of us steeped in the political rigormorale of the day, lack the knowledge of administrations generations ago to accurately rank just how bad our current one is shaping up to be in comparison. There can be no doubt however that if what we are seeing now is the best of what will be seen in the next three years
then this administration will surely go down as one of the worst in our nation’s history.

This administration’s penchant for couching reality in propaganda will be put to the test in a few short weeks as voters in NJ and VA will be going to the polls to decide who shall be governor in their respective states. NJ is a true blue state and it does not bode well for Big Barry and his minons were the governorship to fall into the hands of the “evil GOP.”

    1/20/13 can’t come soon enough.

The end of a really bad joke.

Careful, Arch, you could be tried for thought crimes. Uber-conservative Savior Senator Jeff Sessions of the great inspired state of Alabama is against hate crime legislation targeting gays. He says that we’re treading on thin ice as we legislate against thought crimes. He makes a good point. Senator Sessions has a proven track record of being a racist pig. He’s probably more afraid of being prosecuted for his own thoughts. While his freshly starched KKK robes probably remain in his closet (along with other things), he’s correct. We are treading on thin ice. While I would love to see Sessions whipped for his archaic, bigoted views I will fight to the end to defend his right to maintain them. Hate is hate regardless of the target. The Jeff Session brand of politics is poison and the more he speaks the more we can appreciate just how much he has in common with Hitler as opposed to Jefferson. Perhaps the antidote to people like Sessions is education — and THAT, my friends, is something seriously lacking in Alabama.

All of this would be fine if FOX News was actually a news network. What little news that comes out of FOX is laughable.

This is what the leftist press in Israel said when they campaigned for Arutz Sheva, the only relatively independent radio station in Israel, to be kicked off the air. Arutz Sheva was kicked off the air – but not the internet – so some truth still comes through to the Israeli public.

The TRUTH is that the leftist press will be running a self-hate campaign centered around the Rabin assassination, something planned and executed by the sitting president of the country, Shim’ón Péres, but blamed on a child molester, Yig’ál ‘Amír.

People like Baritone are the perfect fall guys for wanna-be fascist dictators. Truly a shame. Fortunately for you all, your little Duce in Washington has no murders planned for you all – yet.

    How soon people forget…

And if Fox News’ Talking Points weren’t enough for Bush, remember Jeff Gannon, aka “James Guckert?”

Could you imagine if a so-called “liberal, MSM reporter” had THIS kind of folder on him or her while covering the Obama Whitehouse?….

“In what is unlikely to stem the controversy surrounding disgraced White House correspondent James Guckert, the Secret Service has furnished logs of the writer’s access to the White House after requests by two Democratic congressmembers.

The documents, obtained by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) through a Freedom of Information Act request, reveal Guckert had remarkable access to the White House. Though he wrote under the name Jeff Gannon, the records show that he applied with his real name.

Gannon’s ready access to President Bush and his work for a news agency that frequently plagiarized content from other reporters and tailored it to serve a conservative message may raise new questions about the White House’s attempts to seed favorable news coverage. Democrats have sought to paint Guckert in the context of other efforts by the Administration to “plant” positive spin by paying for video news releases and columnists to espouse their views.

Guckert made more than 200 appearances at the White House during his two-year tenure with the fledging conservative websites GOPUSA and Talon News, attending 155 of 196 White House press briefings. He had little to no previous journalism experience, previously worked as a male escort, and was refused a congressional press pass.”

Unbelievably, it gets even more STRANGE:

“In March, 2003, Guckert left the White House twice on days he had never checked in with the Secret Service. Over the next 22 months, Guckert failed to check out with the Service on fourteen days. On several of these visits, Guckert either entered or exited by a different entry/exit point than his usual one. On one of these days, no briefing was held; on another, he checked in twice but failed to check out.”

Could this Gannon/Guckert story have gotten anymore strange?….

    You betcha!

“In most Beltway melodramas, the resignation ends the story. The problem for Gannon, whose real name is James Dale Guckert, is that he told The Washington Post and CNN’s Wolf Blitzer last week that he never launched the Web sites whose provocative names he had registered, such as hotmilitarystud.com. But a Web designer in California said yesterday that he had designed a gay escort site for Gannon and had posted naked pictures of Gannon at the client’s request.”

Christine, I highly doubt Fox News did much coverage on Jeff Gannon/James Guckert during the Bush Administration, but given your fascination with the Obama Administration’s ties to ACORN, and stories about prostitution, and video tapes, you must’ve blogged 24/7 on this “Gannon/Guckert-internet-porn-star-gay-male-escort-turned-fake-journalist-who-visited-the-White-House-200-times-sometimes-overnight-even-on-days-there-wasn’t-a-press-briefing” story.

Now, to be fair…if you didn’t blog on it back then, what is your opinion of this story NOW?

Cobra, it is one thing to call out commentators, but to try to demonize and ENTIRE news organization is quite another!

  • http://www.thecobraslair.com Cobra

    Christine,

“Cobra, it is one thing to call out commentators, but to try to demonize and ENTIRE news organization is quite another!”

But…that’s the strategy. Remember when the New York Times published a story about the Bush Administration’s Warrantless Wiretapping program in December 2005? The author’s of the piece weren’t “demonized” (JAMES RISEN and ERIC LICHTBLAU). Nope. Nobody, except the Pulitzer Prize committee would recognize those two. Conservatives attacked the New York Times.

Christine, don’t get me wrong. They all do it. You pick a fight with the biggest and most recognizable.

I watch media, too. Liberal, Conservative and otherwise. Unless there’s a direct person to connect something to, say a “Scooter Libby”, “William Ayers” or a “Jeremiah Wright”…media generally paints with a broad brush to indict…

    “Mainstream Media”, or “MSM”
    “Pro-Life Movement”
    “Secular Progressives”
    “Christian Fundamentalists”
    “Liberal Elites”
    “Tea Partiers”
    “Big Hollywood”
    “Creationists”
    “Community Organizers”
    “Gay Activists”

On Fox News, it’s not enough to go after NBC alone, but the parent company, General Electric, just as MSNBC goes after Rupert Murdoch.

Actually, this is very interesting, what President Obama is doing. Christine, even YOU have to admit that Fox News is the biggest critic of the Obama Administration that’s even close to “mainstream.”

By making these charges now, in the midst of crucial Trillion dollar Congressional Health Care Reform and pending Afghanistan War Troop level decisions, the Obama Administration has set the agenda of the 24 hour cable news cycle to be first and foremost about…

    Fox News.

And Fox News has taken the bait, and their commentary hatchet men, and “news” reporters lead off and spend most of their time either defending themselves, or attacking the Obama Adminstration (self-perpetuation).

    Christine,

President Obama is not the first President to take Fox News head on. He’s actually a helluva lot more polite about it than President Clinton was.

And for those who don’t want to view it:
    Transcript:

“MR. WALLACE: Do you think you did enough, sir?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: No, because I didn’t get him.

    MR. WALLACE: Right.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: But at least I tried. That’s the difference in me and some, including all the right-wingers who are attacking me now. They ridiculed me for trying. They had eight months to try. They did not try. I tried. So I tried and failed. When I failed, I left a comprehensive anti-terrorist strategy, and the best guy in the country, Dick Clarke, who got demoted.

So, you did Fox’s bidding on this show. You did your nice, little conservative hit job on me.

    MR. WALLACE: But —

PRESIDENT CLINTON: What I want to know —

MR. WALLACE: But wait a minute, sir. I’m going to ask a question. You don’t think that’s a legitimate question?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: It was a perfectly legitimate question. But I want to know, how many people in the Bush administration you ask this question of. I want to know how many people in the Bush administration you ask, why didn’t you do anything about the Cole? I want to know how many people you ask, why did you fire Dick Clarke? I want to know how many people you ask about this.

MR. WALLACE: We ask, we ask — have you ever watched “Fox News Sunday,” sir?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: I don’t believe you ask them that.

MR. WALLACE: We ask plenty of questions —

PRESIDENT CLINTON: You didn’t ask that, did you? Tell the truth, Chris.

MR. WALLACE: On the USS Cole?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Tell the truth, Chris.

MR. WALLACE: With Iraq and Afghanistan, there’s plenty of stuff to ask, sir.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Tell the truth, Chris. Did you ever ask that? You set this meeting up because you’re going to get a lot of criticism from your viewers because Rupert Murdoch’s supporting my work on climate change. And you came here on false pretenses and said that you’d spend half the time talking about —

    MR. WALLACE: I —

PRESIDENT CLINTON: About — you said you’d spend half the time talking about what we did out there to raise $7 billion plus, in three days, from 215 different commitments, and you don’t care.

MR. WALLACE: I — President Clinton, if you look at the questions —

PRESIDENT CLINTON: I thought you’d (have an audience here ?).

MR. WALLACE: You’ll see half the questions about it. I didn’t think this was going to set you off on such a tear.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: You launched into it. It set off on a tear because you didn’t formulate it in an honest way, and because you people ask me questions you don’t ask the other side.

MR. WALLACE: Sir, that’s not so.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: And Richard Clarke —

MR. WALLACE: That is not true.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: Richard Clarke made it clear in his testimony —

MR. WALLACE: Would you like to talk about the Clinton Global Initiative?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: No, I want to finish this thing.

    MR. WALLACE: All right.

PRESIDENT CLINTON: All I’m saying is, you falsely accuse me of giving aid and comfort to bin Laden because of what happened in Somalia. No one knew al Qaeda existed then.

MR. WALLACE: But did they know —

    PRESIDENT CLINTON: Now, wait. Wait.

MR. WALLACE: — in 1996 when he declared war on the U.S.? Did they know in 1998 —

    PRESIDENT CLINTON: Absolutely.

MR. WALLACE: When he bombed the two embassies?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: And who talked about it?

MR. WALLACE: Did they know in 2000 when he hit the Cole?

PRESIDENT CLINTON: What did I do? I worked hard to try to kill him. I authorized a finding for the CIA to kill him. We contracted with people to kill him. I got closer to kill him than anybody’s gotten since. And if I were still president, we’d have more than 20,000 troops there, trying to kill him. Now, I’ve never criticized President Bush, and I don’t think this is useful. But, you know, we do have a government that thinks Afghanistan is only one-seventh as important as Iraq. And you ask me about terror and al Qaeda with that sort of dismissive thing, when all you have to do is read Richard Clarke’s book to look at what we did in a comprehensive systematic way to try to protect the country against terror.

And you’ve got that little smirk on your face. You think you’re so clever. But I had responsibility for trying to protect this country. I tried and I failed to get bin Laden. I regret it. But I did try. And I did everything I thought I responsibly could. The entire military was against sending Special Forces into Afghanistan and refueling by helicopter. And no one thought we got do it otherwise because we could not get the CIA and the FBI that al Qaeda was responsible while I was president. And so, I left office. And yet, I get asked about this all the time.

They had three times as much time to deal with it, and no one ever asked them about it. I think that’s strange.”

    My, my, my…

Now, Christine, Think Progress fact checked Chris Wallace’s claims that he “asks plenty of questions” to Republican Officials.

Condoleeza Rice: No questions on the USS Cole, or the demotion of Richard Clarke, or amazingly, the August 6 PDB:

Neither Chris Wallace, nor his predecessor, Tony Snow ever asked anyone in the Bush administration why they failed to respond to the bombing of the USS Cole, according to a Lexis-Nexis database search. Wallace and Snow have had plenty of opportunities:

Vice President Dick Cheney has been on Fox News Sunday 6 times.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has been on Fox News Sunday 9 times.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been on Fox News Sunday 23 times.

National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley has been on Fox News Sunday 4 times.”

President Clinton was RIGHT in this interview about the Fox News Agenda.

President Obama is RIGHT about the Fox News Agenda.

Why can’t they just be honest about it?

    Cobra

Cobra, why can’t MSNBC be honest about their agenda? They only focus on slamming EVERYONE on the right and Olbermann is downright mean and hateful, while Maddow is just mean!

And if the White House wants to “call out” those that are “masquerading as news organizations”, they had better add MSNBC to that list!

  • http://www.thecobraslair.com Cobra

    Christine,

I don’t think you’d hear any argument about the EVENING lineups of both cable network personalities.

Obviously Fox News with Beck, O’Reilly and Hannity represent a right winged point of view, and obviously MSNBC counter-programs left with Schultz, Olbermann and Maddow. There’s nothing “hidden” about any of the afforementioned folks. They’re opinionated, and you know where they stand.

You can’t say Chris (shivers down my leg) Matthews is “neutral”. Greta Van Sustren often gives 20 minute blocks of unchallenged time to Rush Limbaugh, and she is more obsessed with the Palin family than missing blond coeds in Aruba.

Shepard Smith, IMHO, puts on a great program, and actually bucks the “party” line in his reporting. His coverage of Hurricane Katrina demonstrated to me that at least somebody over there on Fox News at night has some “perspective”. That became even more clear when he interviewed Joe the Plumber.

I can honestly watch his program, and not think that Karl Rove is running the teleprompter.

But even with Shep on board, there’s nothing at Fox News even comparable to having three hours of Fmr. Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough every morning (MSNBC’s Morning Joe.)

    Christine writes:

“And if the White House wants to “call out” those that are “masquerading as news organizations”, they had better add MSNBC to that list!”

I don’t think you’re seeing the issue as both the Clinton and Obama White House did.

Pundits are pundits. No politician in his or her right mind expects a hug or friendly environment from a pundit/host from the OPPOSITE political viewpoint.

Chris Wallace, however is supposed to be the lead journalist on Fox News with the “Tim Russert” position as host of Fox News Sunday. When President Clinton calls him out about why he didn’t ask the SAME questions to Republicans as he was asked, Wallace was caught. Why wouldn’t a “journalist” ask the SAME questions to Democrats and Republicans?

Also, let’s also get a little perspective.

I understand it’s about “cheering for the hometeam”, Christine. And if 88% of your viewers vote Republican (2004), I can’t blame Fox News for giving THEIR audience what THEY want to hear. Want more evidence?

“Eighty-seven percent (87%) of Fox News viewers say they are likely to vote for John McCain, while those who watch CNN and MSNBC plan to support Barack Obama in November by more than two to one.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 65% of CNN voters plan to vote for the Democratic candidate versus 26% who intend to go for the Republican. Similarly, MSNBC watchers plan to vote for Obama over McCain 63% to 30%.

Only nine percent of those who watch Fox News say they will vote for Obama.”

Why, it would be “bad for business” if Fox News did NOT engage in a negative attack campaign against President Obama,
but at least right wing talk radio is honest about it.

All these idiots on American TV are just irrelevant names to me. But what is relevant to me is that an alleged democracy is trying to snuff out one of these stations, and sets of irrelevant names in the name of ideology. In short, it is the obvious end of the alleged democracy. I’m not disappointed. I knew America is no democracy. But now it comes out as obvious and clear, even to those who would deny it. And so many of you would deny it.

Father of 9/11 Victim Fights to Have ‘Murdered by Muslim Terrorists’ Inscribed on Son’s Memorial

Let’s talk about “sanity”, folks. Let’s take a look at this story from FOX NEWS:

For Peter Gadiel, it is a central fact of the Sept. 11 attacks that is often left out.

“It isn’t just overlooked, it’s suppressed,” Gadiel said. “It’s simply wrong to imply that people just died. The buildings didn’t just collapse, they didn’t just fall down — they were attacked by people with a specific identity, a specific purpose.”

Town officials call the phrase too controversial for a small town memorial, and they recently voted against erecting the plaque if Gadiel insists on the language.

“We perceive ourselves as a very warm, loving town,” said Ruth Epstein, a Kent selectman and one of two town leaders to vote the plaque down. “To disparage any one ethnic group is just against everything that we stand for here.”

Fox News is being attacked by YOUR government as not being a legitimate news source. Gee whiz, THIS news story talks about the deliberate suppression of the identity of the murderers of 3,000 or more American citizens on 11 September 2001.

And whose agenda does that sully? It sullies the agenda of a man who gives a full bow to the chief of the Wahhabi murderers who run Arabia – the same Wahhabi murderers who rammed two jets into the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001.

The problem is not that Obama is the only servant to the Wahhabi Thugdom in Arabia. Indeed the last Wahhabi head-waiter, George W. Bush, couldn’t piss on his employers’ shoes and order the nuking of Riyadh. So. instead, he went to war ans sunk all your money into the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, setting you up for this economic disaster you are now living in. But right now, Obama is the Dhimmi-in-Chief, leading a nation of Dhimmis, the lot of you.

As for Ruth Epstein – whose name is emboldened above – I wonder what detention camp this stupid American Jew will be sent to when Obama fingers the American Jews and Zionists for being at fault for the collapse of the American economy in 2011?

Is it sane to deny who kills off your citizens? Is it sane to deliberately suppress this information? Is it sane to go to war against Afghanistan and Iraq when your enemies are the Saudi Thugdom and Persia? Is it sane to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on a war when two or three nukes in the right place can do the job?

Hey, you tell me all about. Sanity is in the next room – I suggest you Americans make her acquaintance. There isn’t anything you can do for her; but there is whole a lot she can do for you.

Earl, why don’t you lead the bunch into the room?

El, Jordan and Dr. D: It it not that Maddow disagrees with conservatives, if you watch her show (which I do all the time because sometimes I learn about the stupidity of the right), her focus is ALWAYS about bashing people not policies (even citizens)!

THIS news story talks about the deliberate suppression of the identity of the murderers of 3,000 or more American citizens on 11 September 2001.

You just don’t get it, do you, Ruvy? The problem is that religion was being used as an EXCUSE to commit atrocity…and do we really want to start publicly blaming entire religions?

WELL then, if we’re going to do that, then let’s start building memorials and plaques blaming the Lutherans for the Holocaust, because most of Germany was Lutheran (only a minority were atheist), and Martin Luther’s words were used on the pulpit to justify the persecution of Judaism, to wit: “I cannot baptize a Jew! If a Jew came to me to ask for baptism I’d tie a rope around his neck, tie the other end to a stone, and throw him into the Rhine!”

So YEAH, let’s not blame the Nazis, but the LUTHERANS!

And THEN let’s not forget to blame ALL the Catholics for the tens of thousands of Jews tortured and/or murdered in the Inquisition!

But wait, that’s not all! If we add up all the people murdered in the name of God by all the world’s religions, who’s killed the most? The Muslims? No! Mainstream ‘Christianity’ has killed more innocents in the name of God than any other religion in human history!

YES, Ruvy, there are Muslims who hate you. YES, Ruvy, there are mainstream ‘Christians’ who hate you. But which one has killed more Jews…by a factor of at least ten-to-one?

So if you’ve just GOT to find someone to blame, then blame the ones who’ve killed the most Jews, and see the Muslims for what they are.

Yeah, you face a threat from them – but they also face a threat from you. It’s called MAD – and you know what I’m talking about. MAD works, perverse as that may sound, but in many ways MAD is to thank for our current level of human civilization.

So please sit down, calm yourself with a cup of tea, and gaze over the vast sweep of history. It’s not time for the ‘last resort’ of nuclear warfare. It IS time for diplomatic maneuver, to increase trade and get rich together. Why? Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. Make your enemies need you, and they will not strike you.

Proof? China. They could ruin our economy and take over world leadership in a day…if it weren’t for the fact that most of their economy is supported by American companies like Wal-Mart.

And as far as the subject goes, if Fox News weren’t the network with the greatest percentage of false and wrongly-skewed news reports – which false and wrongly-skewed reports always place Obama and liberals in a bad light – I’d give them more credence.

But it is obvious that they care FAR less about accuracy than about a political agenda. Journalistic integrity is not high on their priorities. A simple Google search exposes their lies.

Inasmuch as I detest anything at FOX News, I’m really growing impatient with this Administration and the battles which they choose to wage. I had been thinking that perhaps Barack Obama is just too intellectual to be President. Now I am beginning to think that not only is he too intellectual but he is also cut from the same cloth as the elitists at Harvard and MIT. You see, the white folk in the Hub of liberalism talk a good game but upon closer examination one quickly finds that there is plenty of racism brewing below the surface. Case in point was the sham known as the beer summit. The nasty truth is that racism thrives in the neighborhoods in Cambridge and around Harvard especially within the Cambridge Police Department It’s just that the officers of color and Asian heritage find it easier to go along with the “party line” as opposed to bringing the truth to light.

Barack Obama may look “black” on the surface yet let us not forget that he is, indeed, half white. And it is to that half of his heritage which he is pandering. He’s becoming an increasing disappointment and may be destined to the annals of history as a leader to whom great opportunities were afforded which were completely lost because of politics. He’s in grave danger of losing his LGBT support. The Asian community is soon to follow. At the end of his first year it’s becoming clear that Barack Obama may be a one term President. The problem becomes with whom do we replace him? Palin? Pawlenty? Cheney? My prediction is that a Democrat may rise through the ranks after the elections next year and wage a serious challenge for 2012 — and my money is on a current member of the Obama Administration to lead the challenge.

Meanwhile, back to FOX and the rest of the “news” media. We need to become smarter about where we get our news. If one solely relies on MSNBC, FOX or CNN for information then one deserves the misery one gets. These are not “news” stations. They’re “smarter” versions of A Current Affair and Access Hollywood. John Peter Zenger must have rolled so much in his grave that his corpse has surfaced in Tienanmen Square.

Actually I get it all rather well, Glenn. The father was wrong to say “Muslim terrorists” – he ought to have said “Wahhabi terrorists” as I do consistently. The less than overbright selectman Ruth Epstein, could have done a little research and suggested this herself – I’m sure the aggrieved father would have accepted this – but then she would not be less than overbright, would she?

There is nothing wrong with stating the truth, is there? Or is that not politically correct either? You do comprehend that the Wahhabi intend to kill you off, don’t you? You do comprehend that it is their concept of jihad that was operative in destroying the World Trade Center, don’t you? Now, the question of where I would place blame for persecution of Jews is a separate issue that need not be addressed here. That is not the issue of this article, nor the issue of this comment. Let it stand that I do have my “little list”.

But this is not about me, Glenn.

FYI, the ‘whole lot’ of them do NOT call for the destruction of Judaism. Mostly it is the Wahhabis, and now many Shi’a are doing so because Israel’s militant stance is giving them an excuse, someone to hate.

But the great majority of the Muslim world is too busy scrabbling a living to care.

Beware of painting with too broad a brush when it comes to religion, Ruvy.

I think the town is taking the wrong approach here. The wording on the memorial is inappropriate: not because it identifies the perpetrators or their religion, but because it’s undignified.

You don’t see war memorials that say “bombed to smithereens by the Luftwaffe” or “machine-gunned by the Viet Cong”. They say “To those who lost their lives in X War”.

To identify the perpetrators on a memorial turns the focus on them and away from the memory of the deceased, which should be the whole purpose.

    DD,

    To comment #42:

Memorial plaques in Jerusalem (like at French Hill or the Center of town) have the names of those who died, and generally state “killed by terrorists on [whatever date]”. It is not necessary to say Arab terrorists – we all know the identity of the terrorists – but I’m sure that some would like the plaques to say this as well. The article I cited does not give the wording of the proposed plaque, so it can be hard to determine what is in good or bad taste here.

    Ruvy –

Yes, it is about you. That’s not meant in an insulting way, but just referring to the way you’re seeing things. War and draconian policies are rarely the way to solve problems. It’s like the hammer is the only tool you have, and so all problems look like nails.

America is likely in decline – and I’m not so bothered by that because such is the natural way of nations throughout history. The only difference is that it’s happening more quickly because events in the world affect the rest of the world now in real time.

That, and it’s not so much a decline of America as it is the rise of much of the rest of the world. With the rise of China, Europe, and many third-world countries, the economic and social standing of those countries relative to America’s status makes it seem as if America is declining.

One last thing – many people make the mistake of looking back to “the good old days”, whether it’s about their community, about society as a whole, or about the nation or the world. Their mistake is not realizing that just like the song says, these are the good old days. Life has never been better for humanity as a whole than it is right now.

So go down to the local cafe and have a cuppa, or maybe a decaf latte, and appreciate what most of humanity now has.

  • http://delibernation.com/blog/3 Silas Kain

Thank you, Ruvy. With regard to your comparison of present day U.S. to Rome, I take exception in that there is another factor to be considered. In ten years the Latino population will have a majority minority status. That, coupled with the influx of other nationals into our society, may be our saving grace. If, God forbid, a war is fought on this land those who survive will be the “minorities”. In many cases they know war. In other cases they know extreme hardship. Those experiences will empower them to defend their new homeland. Those who will not survive are the spoiled, self absorbed citizens of the United States who have never experienced that which those who survive did.

And, may I remind you, had Elizabeth I not defeated the Spanish Armada we would be in a very different place today where the language of the land would be Spanish and the state religion the Roman Church.

  • http://ruvysroost.blogspot.com Ruvy

    Silas,

History never repeats itself exactly. But consider: the Romans hired Germans and Sarmatians for their legions – and had to worry about the loyalty of those they hired. They abandoned a citizen army and relied on mercenaries.

Now ask yourself: in a world where America is declining, how loyal will immigrants be? Will they not look at their lands of origins and consider that there is nothing wrong with “hyphenation” as Teddy Roosevelt put it.

My mother was a patriotic American. She was American first, last and always. When my father would complain about how butter had tasted better in Poland, or how employers exploited workers in America, she would say, “Louie, go back if it’s so bad here.” That would shut my father up pretty fast.

But the world has changed immensely since my father immigrated to the United States in 1921 – the “góldeneh medíneh” (the golden country) – and today.

Now mind you, I’m not taking any pot-shots at Latin-Americans. My experience with them has been that if you are friends with a Puerto Rican, you have a friend who will watch your back in a dangerous alley, and that Mexicans are the opposite of the “lazy meskin” stereotype attributed to them. They work hard and hustle hard and get their shit done. That is what I learned as a Burger King manager. I also learned that Mexicans can be as tough as nails when it comes to cutting a deal – especially when they do understand the lingo. That is my experience.

But counting on immigrants – any immigrants – to be loyal to a declining country is tougher than counting on their loyalty to a country that is still on the rise.

We have similar backgrounds, you and I and a similar respect for the value of immigrant populations. But consider what I tell you – now that I am an immigrant myself.

  • http://drdreadful.blogspot.com Dr Dreadful

    Glenn @ #45: LOL.

I have to wonder if this is fake, though, despite the fact that it’s available as a PDF on the governor’s website.

I don’t know – perhaps someone hacked into the website and left it there – but the absence of a letterhead and Ahnold’s signature seems a bit suspicious to me.

  • http://drdreadful.blogspot.com Dr Dreadful

    Ruvy @ #44:

It seems that Israelis have a different outlook on this. Where I come from, you wouldn’t see such inscriptions on memorials. Understatement is the watchword.

  • Glenn Contrarian

    Ruvy –

But counting on immigrants – any immigrants – to be loyal to a declining country is tougher than counting on their loyalty to a country that is still on the rise.

That’s a true statement – if those immigrants have the perception that the country in question is in decline.

The difference, I feel, is the welcome one receives. Yes, there are many in America who hate immigrants – but there are many more who welcome them with open arms. Not only that, but you well know that America, most of the countries of the British Commonwealth, and France are the only places where an immigrant can truly BE a citizen of that country (other than Israel, which truly accepts anyone as long as they’re Jewish)…and AFAIK, the fact that Obama carries the title of ‘president’ puts us a bit further ahead in that respect.

So when it comes to the loyalty of immigrants, it is beyond question that America still sets the standard on this planet. All I need for proof of that is to look at the Hillary-for-president signs that my immigrant wife still has in the garage. It’s not without reason that I’ve often said that my wife is more patriotic than I am – she’s the one who demanded that we fly the flag in front of the house.

    Silas writes:

“Barack Obama may look “black” on the surface yet let us not forget that he is, indeed, half white. And it is to that half of his heritage which he is pandering.”

And people accuse ME of “injecting race” into blog threads here.

What’s this line supposed to mean? You can’t possibly be questioning President Obama’s “black authenticity”, in America, where:

Fact: Fully 58 percent of African-American people, according to geneticist Mark Shriver at Morehouse College, possess at least 12.5 percent European ancestry (again, the equivalent of that one great-grandparent). As a matter of fact, if I analyzed the y-DNA (which a man inherits exactly from his father, and he from his father, etc.) of all the black players in the NBA, fully one-third (somewhere between 30 percent and 35 percent) would, incredibly, discover that they were descended from a white male who impregnated a black female, most likely a female slave, just as a white man did Michelle Obama’s third-great-grandmother. In the ‘60s, we were fond of saying that we are an “African people.” Well, our DNA proclaims loudly that we are a European people, a multicultural people, a people black as well as white. You might think of us as an Afro-Mulatto people, our genes recombined in that test tube called slavery.”

So when you post stuff on here about Obama “pandering to the “white” half of his heritage”, remember the scientific FACT that “African-Americans” weren’t around 500 years ago…most of us were RAPED into existance by White Males via slavery. Which means I, as a fair-skinned African-American, am probably more genetically “European” than some of the more honerous, allegedly White Conservatives who attack me here.

    Silas writes:

“He’s becoming an increasing disappointment and may be destined to the annals of history as a leader to whom great opportunities were afforded which were completely lost because of politics.”

What are you talking about? There have only been THREE Democrats in the White House during the past FORTY YEARS.

    THREE.

Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Two Southern White Governors, and a guy who received the most votes in American history.

As I pointed out in other threads…Clinton SIGNED IN “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, the very law you and other folks are blaming Obama for not forcing congress to get rid of in his first nine months in office.

I get the Fox News “attack-Obama-24-7-because-88%-of-our-audience-is-Republican-and-registered Republicans-are-90%-White” strategy. They don’t surprise any conscious observer.

What I DON’T get, is when people on the alleged left try to project their specific agendas as “campaign promises” made by Obama, causing them the weeping and gnashing of teeth when those projections aren’t immediately realized. Dennis Kucinich didn’t get elected President.(he can’t win a primary) Bernie Sanders didn’t get elected President. Barack Obama was elected President. He ran as a pragmatist, and was NEVER as radically liberal as Fox News painted him, but still the baseless agenda projections exist.

You’ve got people calling Obama “Hitler” for supporting health care reform legislation, and you think repealing “Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell” is a fillibuster-proof lock in today’s Senate?

    Hello?

    Silas writes:

“My prediction is that a Democrat may rise through the ranks after the elections next year and wage a serious challenge for 2012 — and my money is on a current member of the Obama Administration to lead the challenge.”

What are you talking about? Exactly WHO is going challenge Obama from the cabinet? How is this person going to POSSIBLY win the primaries needed to gain the nomination? Exactly WHO from the GOP is going to defeat Obama, when only twenty percent of the population will even ADMIT to being a Republican?

  • http://ruvysroost.blogspot.com Ruvy

To get back to the original topic here, the Obama administration seeks to stifle dissent in the United States, much as “left wing” extremists on American campuses seek to silence what real Israelis have to say, and the J Street” faux “pro-Israel” organization tries to destroy what little is left of the “Jewish lobby” in the United States. Enjoy a serious examination of these issues by Caroline Glick of the Jerusalem Post. From the article:

THE FACT that J Street represents neither mainstream Israeli thinking nor mainstream American Jewish thinking is of little concern to its leadership. J Street represents the Obama administration. In his keynote address before the conference, National Security Adviser James Jones told his cheering audience that J Street has a friend in the Obama White House. As he put it, “You can be sure that this administration will be represented at all other future J Street conferences.”

In recent weeks we have discovered that like its agent J Street, and indeed like Sussman at Brandeis, the Obama White House is also dedicated to silencing opposing voices by marginalizing and demonizing dissent. In fact, the White House’s modus operandi is startlingly similar to theirs.

There are six national television networks in the US. Five of them support President Barack Obama. One – Fox News – does not. Rather than rejoice in what is an overwhelmingly favorable state of affairs for it, in recent weeks, the Obama White House has gone to war against Fox News. Obama’s senior advisers have castigated the network as “the research arm of the Republican Party,” and claim daily that it is “not a news organization.”

Obama as well as top administration officials boycott Fox programs and are seeking to intimidate friendly news organizations into joining them in isolating Fox. In a spate of recent statements on the subject, Obama’s top advisers have warned the other networks not to follow Fox’s lead on any of the stories it reports, lest they discover they have allowed themselves to become the tool of the Republicans.

A straight line connects Sussman’s rants, J Street’s lies and the Obama administration’s attempt to destroy a news organization. In each case, actions aimed at silencing debate are falsely characterized as the brave moves of an underdog seeking to confront the evil powers that be. Sussman writes of the need to overthrow the “oligarchs.” J Street claims to be breaking the “right-wing stranglehold” on US Israel policy. And Obama’s adviser Valerie Jarrett claims that by attacking Fox News, the White House is “speaking truth to power.”

Luckily, the falseness of all of these claims has not been lost on the American public. Despite the actions of the likes of Sussman, “wildly pro-Zionist” voices still resonate on college campuses just as they do throughout the US. J Street has been unable to convince American Jews that its anti-Israel positions are the true expression of American Jewish Zionism. And Obama’s approval ratings now stand at a mere 51%.

The Obama administration is copying Stalin in its tactics of attempting to destroy he Jewish community and its voices in America. In the beginning, Stalin had legions of Jews listening to him and his Jewish lieutenants. But the day came when Stalin decided that there were too many “sons of David” at his table and executed the head the Jewish Bund in the USSR. Obama will follow a similar pattern, surrounding himself with “Jews” – really traitors to Jews, Israel and Judaism – and then when the American economy collapses in 2011, he will turn around and blame the Jews and the Zionists, throwing all these “china doll” Jews under the bus of inconvenience. One has to wonder which detainment camps all these rich American Jews who think they have it great will wind up in in the near future.

It’s kind of obvious to us in Israel that you have nothing but a traitor in the White House, an SOB who hates Jews and who hates Israel. How long will it take for you Americans to figure out the same thing?

Perhaps if you spoke from your heart instead of reading from a “talking points” guide book more people would get to know you as a person?

    … I know, if I really knew you, I wouldn’t say that.

    sigh

Jet, “talking points”, I’m not a politician or pundit, just a mom of two and a fitness trainer.

Due to your sarcastic attacks and prejudice (at least when it comes to me), I find it difficult to even have a civil debate with you. At least most of my critics here on BC are nice, even Zing who has bashed me around quite a bit with profanity. I’d prefer his style over yours any day.

Cobra, do you blame africans for slavery as much as you do americans? Just curious

  • http://jetspolitics.blogspot.com/ Jet Gardner

Well Christine if you knew me, you’d know that I don’t varnish or decorate what I type on this screen.

Waaaaaay too many people read and misinterpret what I say around here, but they never doubt what’s on my mind.

People who know me, know I mean what I say and I say what I mean. I’ve inadvertantly stepped on as many egos as have stepped on mine, and I NEVER represent my opinions as facts, and when I’m wrong I admit it.

…he typed in an even and unpatronizing tone.

because i’m the court fool, i can get away with rotten shit. i leave little piles around, like a dog in your back yard. of course, now and again, i like to eat my own shit. stupid dogs.

Jet, ok, but when I am inadvertantly or directly lumped in with the racists, “birthers”, etc., it is not a matter of ego, just honor.

That said: I wish I did know you better. I am sure if we all knew each other better: hardships, trials and our triumphs as well as our tenderness that lies deep within each one of our hearts, we would all get along much better. And that is from my heart!

The keyword there is “inadvertantly” dear… and my on-line diary is there for anyone to read.

No, not as much. Africans didn’t design the uniquely American Chattel Slavery system, and African slavery wasn’t, for the most part, based exclusively on race.

But I DO agree with Christine’s statement here:

“I am sure if we all knew each other better: hardships, trials and our triumphs as well as our tenderness that lies deep within each one of our hearts, we would all get along much better.”

That being said, I hope, Christine, that you don’t view my responses to your posts as “bashing”. Obviously, I have a different point of view from you, but that shouldn’t be a barrier to greater understanding. Political discussions today tend to play out like sports…

HATE CRIME IN AMERICA IS INCREASINGLY ON THE RISE BECAUSE OF PEOPLE FROM FOX NEWS MASQUERADING AS NEWS PEOPLE

  • http://jetspolitics.blogspot.com/ Jet Gardner

And Sara Palin is a COMMUNIST because she was born in Alaska-a state that used to be part of Russia. That’s why she brags about seeing it from her window all of the time!!!!!

  • http://delibernation.com Silas Kain

Hate crime in America is on the rise because for the first time in a long time Americans are scared shitless of where this country is headed. The constant barrage of media-speak into the national discourse exacerbates the paranoia. We need to shut off our televisions or disconnect the cable box and start talking to people directly and reading newspapers.

FOX isn’t the only problem. MSNBC is right up there with CNN distantly behind. That’s why CNN ratings dwindle. They’re trying to give us the straight talk but without theatrics and panic encouragement there’s just no entertainment in news. It’s like the missionary position — it gets old fast. Unless, of course, you’re a religious fanatic who believes that anything beyond the missionary is grounds for burning at the stake.

Silas, I like CNN more and more each day!
