This week on the Nintendo download services, we’ve got plenty of Cave Story, in either portable or demo form. There’s also games for puzzle fans, and rejoice, disc golf fans who own Wiis: you have a game to play.
This week’s games are as follows:
On DSiWare this week, we have Cave Story (Nicalis, 1 player, 1,000 DSi Points), Frenzic (Two Tribes, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) and Spot It! Challenge (Big John Games, 1-4 players, 200 DSi Points). Cave Story is a DSi version of the PC indie game classic and the WiiWare hit. Frenzic is all about putting “pie pieces” in the right place to fill up circles, so it’s like Trivial Pursuit sans the trivia … so “Pursuit?” Spot It! Challenge, meanwhile, is about finding hidden objects in puzzles. This game gives you 10 to solve.
WiiWare has two titles and a demo this week: Airport Mania: First Flight (Lemon Games, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points), HB Arcade Disc Golf (HB Studios Multimedia, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) and the demo of Cave Story (1 player, free). Airport Mania: First Flight has you taking control of planes to land them, then repair and upgrade them. Kind of an odd premise. HB Arcade Disc Golf is what it sounds like: a disc golf game for you and your friends/family. Perfect for those of you who live where disc golf is impossible. Like the middle of the ocean.
And the Virtual Console’s back for a second week, with Magical Drop 2 (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points). Magical Drop 2 is a puzzle title in which you have to pull balloons down, then toss them back up to line up vertical rows of three or more. If it sounds a bit like Bubble Bobble, well, there are some similarities, but enough differences, too, to make this game unique.
Magical Drop 2 debuted on the Japanese Virtual Console in May. It, along with Airport Mania: First Flight, HB Arcade Disc Golf and the demo, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Cave Story, Frenzic and Spot It! Challengeare available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.
Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
