Two weeks ago, I said, “August isn’t really starting out well for the WiiWare and DSiWare channels, and it’s sure not a great start for the Virtual Console because it hasn’t even shown up.” Sadly, that’s still the case — for all intents and purposes, the Virtual Console appears to be gone. I hope that’s not the case, but you know, it makes me sad if it is.

Still, we’ve got other games to look at. This week’s games are as follows:

On DSiWare this week, we have Divergent Shift (Konami, 1 player, 800 DSi Points), 3D Mahjong (Cosmigo, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), myNotebook: Carbon (Nnooo, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), and Just Sing! National Anthems (Engine Software, 1 player, 200 DSi Points). Divergent Shift is the highlight this week, a unique game from Konami that has you controlling one character on two screens, avoiding pitfalls and dangers on both at the same time. 3D Mahjong is, well, more mahjong, myNotebook: Carbon is a notebook app, and Just Sing! National Anthems lets you sing national anthems of 5 different countries.

WiiWare has two titles this week: Space Trek (Calaris, 1 player, 700 Wii Points) and A Monsteca Corral: Monsters vs. Robots (Onteca, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points). Space Trek is a third-person shoter where you pilot a jet across an alien landscape, killing what’s in your path, while A Monsteca Corral: Monsters vs. Robots puts you in control of a herd of critters while trying to avoid evil robots trying to take them.

The Virtual Console is, as said before, gone for who knows how long. Triple ugh.

Space Trek and A Monsteca Corral: Monsters vs. Robots are available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Divergent Shift, 3D Mahjong, myNotebook: Carbon, and Just Sing! National Anthems are available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
