For Wii owners this week there’s not much to download, but what’s there is all retro-themed, with a remake of a classic turn-based simulation game and an isometric shooter from the 1980s. DSi owners have a little more to download in the form of card games, an Arkanoid-based title, and a new WarioWare D.I.Y. DLC title from a well-known developer. Sorry, sports fans: unless you could Texas Hold’em, there’s nothing for you for the start of baseball’s second week.

This week’s games are as follows:

On DSiWare this week, we have Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. (Gameloft, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), AlphaBounce (Mad Monkey Studios, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), 7 Card Games (cerasus.media, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), and AiRace (QubicGames, 1-6 players, 800 DSi Points). Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. is your basic Grand Theft Auto-like game. AlphaBounce takes the basis of Arkanoid and adds in a ship customization option. 7 Card Games is what the title says: a compilation of Texas Hold’em, Omaha Hold’em, Blackjack, Freecell, Hearts, Klondike Deal 1, and Klondike Deal 3. Lastly, AiRace is an airplane racing title for DSi owners to enjoy.

There’s also another batch of WarioWare D.I.Y. DLC with Big Name Games: Fire Bad! by Alex Neuse of Gaijin Games.

This week, WiiWare has just one lonely game: Military Madness: Nectaris (Hudson, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points). Military Madness: Nectaris is an enhanced remake of the original Military Madness. It still features the same hexagonal-grid system and the maps are all based off the original game, but it’s got better graphics, a few new units, and online game play modes. The WiiWare version is, unfortunately, a few maps shorter than the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions however.

The Virtual Console has a lone title for it this week: Zaxxon (Arcade, 1 player, 800 Wii Points). An isometric shooter from Sega, Zaxxon‘s a very fun looking but very, very loud game. Let’s hope they’ve toned the volume down just a bit, or someone’s speakers are going to be blown out by the ship engine’s sounds!

Zaxxon debuted on the Japanese Virtual Console in December 2009 and the PAL Virtual Console in March. It, along with Military Madness: Nectaris, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while the WarioWare D.I.Y. DLC, Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A., AlphaBounce, 7 Card Games, and AiRace are available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
