Nintendo's line-up of games this week has a decidedly older flavor. That's not because the games themselves are retro remakes, but because they all tap into genres or games that have long since been pushed aside for the newest Halo title or the latest edition of Madden NFL. For an old-school gamer, this week is a pretty good week, especially since there aren't any silly applications or dumb clocks for DSi owners.

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon (Nintendo, 1 player, 500 DSi Points). It's an Ancient Greek-themed pinball game from Nintendo with, according to the description in the press release, a regular mode and a daily mode that might be some sort of challenge that changes. Other than that, I honestly don't know a thing about this game because it was just kind of sprung on us all.

On WiiWare, we've got Gravitronix (Medaverse Studios, 1-8 players, 500 Wii Points). If you're old enough to remember Warlords in the arcades, Gravitronix is essentially that in a shiny new coat of paint. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then let me explain.  In Gravitronix players compete in an arena, trying to knock a projectile back and forth to take out their competition's shields. If the projectile hits your avatar, you die and it's game over. There's also a campaign mode, it seems, which ought to be a bit interesting.

On the Virtual Console this week is a good old-fashioned beat 'em up in the form of Final Fight 2 (Capcom, 1 player, 500 Wii Points). Originally available on Super NES, players get the chance to take Mike Haggar out on the streets to fight the Mad Gear gang, except this time, they're doing something Russell Crowe would certainly approve of: fightin' 'round the world. An all-around solid title that's recommended for anyone looking for both a challenge and a fun time.

Final Fight 2 came out last week on the PAL Virtual Console. It, along with Gravitronix, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
