Yes, I went to see THAT MOVIE....

I am not a fan of Michael Moore but yes, I saw THAT FILM yesterday. I had no intention of seeing it until I observed a very strange phenomenon. Every show was selling out way in advanced and the type of people I saw that were buying tickets. Put that on top of the protester outside the theater and the fact that the Conservatives really wanted this film put out of commission, I decided to see for myself what was going on. I got my ticket for last night's 7:30 show at 10 am since all the ones before that one has been sold out.

I go to the theater at 6:30. Already the line waiting for the 7:30 shows were of an unheard of length at the Century Landmark theater. They had the film playing on 4 out of 7 screens, each theater sold to capacity. In my particular theater, all of the wheelchair spots were also taken with wheelchairs. I was more interested in the crowd going and made a point to see the mix. You had whites, blacks, Latinos, Asians. There were more people in the 30-55 age bracket (which really surprised me as that I thought the theater was going to be full of college kids). You could tell there were a few conservatives in the theater- I happen to be sitting next to one who was heckling the movie under her breath and actually ended up walking out after about 20 mins. The ONLY person to walk out in the theater that I was viewing.

There was laughter and applause frequently during the showing. There was two time that I was actually moved to tears myself. At the end of the show, there was standing and clapping in my theater. I had to use the toilet badly (too much cherry coke!) and made point to keep my ears open to the comments around me. For the most part the movie seemed really well received. People seem to understand that Moore was being selective in what he was showing and heavy handed in other points. All in all, the comments that I was overhearing didn't seem like the kind to come glassy eyed idiots. There were some who you could tell had swallowed hook line and sinker but that didn't seem to be the majority of the commentary.
