William Shatner Joins "The Practice" Spin Off

Now, I make it no secret that I am a big time Star Trek fan. This is why I was thrilled to see William Shatner do his brief stint on The Practice as a big shot, eccentric lawyer defending Alan Shore’s case in his break with the rest of the Practice.

I have to say that I think the role fit William Shatner perfectly! With the demise of The Practice and talks that James Spader might be getting his own spin off show, I think it would be great to see William Shatner come back to the prime time in a reoccurring role as the big shot lawyer who sums everything up in just his name:

Danny Crane.

** ADDENDUM****

WHOOT!!! THIS TOTALLY KICKS ASS! It's going to be GREAT to see Shatner on TV again!

And a belated happy birthday to BOTH William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy who both turned 73 last week.

This day just got brighter! And Star Trek fans are happy!

I've never seen a TV progam turn around so much in one season as The Practice. I don't even particularly like TV and I just will *not* miss watching or recording this season's Spader-laden episodes.

I actually hate Star Trek, but I've always rather liked Shatner as a person. Spader/Shatner in Kelley's new Practice. This is a thing that I will watch, hacking and slashing through the surfeit of onerous "reality" programming to get to it.

You've no doubt seen the TV commercial for Priceline.com featuring both Shatner and Nimoy: funnier than 90% of TV comedy broadcasted; and I should look so good at 73.

I have but one question - Will William Shatner be performing with or without toupee?

    He's wearing his rug.

And I can't help but to say that the inclusion of William Shatner was unexpected, and GOOD CASTING. He's PERFECT for this role.

wouldn't he have to wear the rug for T.J. Hooker - The Movie?

if i remember right, Hooker never wore a policeman's cap.

Once again I would like to reiterate how sad it is that we are losing television's only show that concentrates on litigation (Especially trial) drama.

I am sure everyone is just thrilled that without The Practice, they can turn to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which has MANY episodes where the lawyers only appear during the last five minutes of the show, if that.

I miss good ole days of pure lit drama on The Practice and the original L&O, where exactly at the :30 minute mark the show shifted from a cop show to criminal litigation drama show.

Granted, the last episode of the Practice, with courtroom action delivered by Spader, Shatner, and Steve Harris (Eugene) was good because of the courtroom action, but we can only hope that kind of drama continues till the end of this great run and into the spinoff.

I am not getting my hopes up though.

I had to resist the temptation to dig up the previous The Practice thread and add two words to it after watching last nights show. The two words? Denny Crane.

Kristin Hunter (Lattany), one of my writing teachers in college, told us to always know what a character wants. After watching last night's show, I still don't know what Alan wants. I don't think Alan knows what he wants either. Perhaps the not knowing is what keeps us coming back for more.

LOL MD... I think the next time I get into a fight on Blogcritics, I'm just going to type in as response:

    Danny Crane.

I was laughing so hard at that. Honestly, I enjoy that hour of television last night. =)

I cannot believe the man is all of 73 years old. Not only does he ooze extraordinary vigor, he's "with it" in a young crowd. His enthusiasm hits the Richter scale when he talks about paintball or his work for charities that enrich the lives of physically or emotionally challenged children.

That's William Shatner, who appeared on "The Wayne Brady Show" for an entertaining twenty-minute chat. Brady is a fan of "Star Trek" and "T.J. Hooker". Shatner seems intrigued by his new character in "The Practice". While talking energetically about "Spplat Attack", Shatner suddenly clutches his chest, and whispers what sounds like "Oh, shit!", as he feigns a heart attack that makes Brady turn pale. I didn't read any of your comments cuz they look so boring, but here's the bottom line:

Shatner sucks. He's a terrible actor.

That show will suck. Lawyer dramas are boring and Shatner's a joke. James Spader's a good actor and it's an interesting character, but people won't like the show because it won't have the BS moral high ground that the Practice did. It'll last two-three seasons tops, with middling ratings.

    That is all.
