West Winged

West Wing, hey, didn't they have Timothy Bottoms playing the president?

When he wrote "Sports Night", Aaron Sorkin got me to understand why people like, appreciate, and even love sports. Now, I hate sports, well, hate is too strong a word, perhaps avid disinterest. Except for Sumo, and only when John Tenka was going on the pro circuit. Anyways, "Sports Night" allowed me insight into the world as percieved by pansy ass football fans.

He did much the same for USAian politics with the first three seasons of "The West Wing". Now coming from Canada, I don't have to tell you 'murricans that you have no interest in how the Governor General, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Privy Council, The House of Commons, The Senate and how provincial parties can have the same names as federal parties, but be totally different things, all interact. Nor do I expect you to care, since for the people of the USA, "We are the world".

However, Sorkin for several seasons actually made me care about the workings of the US government. He had a great cast. Allison Janney was my teevee girlfriend.

But with tonight's premiere, it's over. Josh said it best when he said, "We've made a mistake". The West Wing has turned into a turgid soap opera. And I just don't care. The alternate universe where the government you deserved is gone, and now they got Sorkin off the goofballs and off writing something else we can care about, all that's left is mediocre teevee. And there's plenty of mediocre teevee, and way more crap. So bye, J.C. it was a slice.
