Upcoming Vampire Film Daybreakers Puts Some Bite Back in the Genre

Part of: NewsFlash

Lionsgate Films has released a new TV spot for the forthcoming much anticipated vampire film Daybreakers. Set in the year 2019, Daybreakers shows us a future where vampires rule the world and humans have been driven to near extinction. The problem with that is the dwindling blood supply created by the farming of the human race as fodder for the vampires.

Daybreakers stars two-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke in what will be his second foray into genre territory, the first being the science fiction film Gattaca. Starring alongside him are Sam Neill and Willem Dafoe. Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a vampire researching ways to come up with a blood substitute but his character is sure to be a far cry from that other vampire named Edward and Daybreakers promises to be a much darker interpretation of the vampire mythos.

Daybreakers looks smart, frightening and richly visual. The use of Placebo's haunting rendition of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" as the background music in the trailer hints at a movie that will be both cerebral and scary and I am very much looking forward to seeing a vampire film with some real bite to it.

Daybreakers hits theaters January 8, 2010. Visit the film's official website and be sure to visit their Facebook page as well.
